Hi Ladies. I am 39 wks and yesterday my doc did a stretch and sweep to help me get things going. He told me it is usually only 50% effective and may cause labor to start in 2-3 days.
Has anyone had this done and what was the success rate?
Thanks gals,

I've had it done 2 times and am getting it done again this morning. I'm now 39+3. It works for some. I'm almost totally effaced now so I'm hoping it works this time. We'll see!

What is a stretch and sweep? I haven't heard of that before. Good luck to you both!

Hi Karen
a stretch and sweep is where the doc inserts his fingers and stretches the cervix and sweeps his fingers around your membranes to kick start labor. He doesn't actually break your water or anything, and he told me it is only 50% effective.
I feel crampy today, but the process is pretty uncomfortable so maybe that is why. I have not had contractions - ever and my baby boy is still not engaged!
i am frustrated - I want to meet this little guy!

I am 40 weeks today and I had it done 3 times.. the first and the last time which was yesterday it hurt very badly.. Doc said he was going to poke through my cervix to stretch it out.. I have been 1 centimeter for a little over 3 weeks.. I have been now having contractions every 12 minutes.. and I am so ready to go to the hospital anytime tonight or tomorrow.. I will keep you posted..

I'm 40 weeks tomorrow and just had it done today. Yes, VERY uncomfortable and I hope I don't have to have it done more than once! Good luck to all of you ~ JulieB ~ sounds good! Keep us informed, and all the best!!
