How much is too much swelling? I know its totally common to experience swelling in your hands/feet/ankles etc due to all the blood and water retention...but seriously, I can't take much more of it!! I feel so swollen almost all the time!!! Especially my hands! They are like twice the size they were! :( I hate this!! But is there cause for concern too?

Hey Chrissi79-I have the same problem not so bad anymore cause im pounding back the water and I find it has kept the swelling away for whatever reason. I have been swelling up really bad since before 20 weeks now 29 weeks and feeling less swollen now then I was then but I do notice that I swell up really quickly if i have not drank to much water so now water is my bestfriend. Being swollen is not scomfortable my feet were huge I did not have ankles when this would happen and my hands and face were so tight just uncomfortable. i talked to my doctor about it but he just brushes it off. it could be something to try to see if it works for you but talk to your doctor about it for sure.

Yes Chrissi, there is definitley cause for concern with too much water retention. I don't want to scare you because it's probably nothing, but you should talk to your doctor about it. Have you had your glucose screening test done yet? Towards the end of your pregnancy, the doctors are supposed to pay close attention to your hands and feet and if they are swollen. Swelling could just mean it was something you ate, being on your feet for too long, etc. or it could mean something more serious like toxemia or preclampsia. You should definitley talk to your doctor about it. How's your blood pressure been?

Hey Tiffany, my BP has been right on actually, usually in and around 120 over 80 range. I know, my mom keeps saything that too, keep your eye on it etc...I have my checkup this friday, so I will mention it for sure. I have had my glucose screening test, yes. Almost 2 weeks ago, but have not heard from my doc's office (yet) so I'm hoping that means good news...??

Hi Chrissi! I'm sure everything is fine w/ your glucose test or they would have called, but you might want to ask when you go to the doctors on Friday. Also definitely tell him/her that you've been very swollen lately. Like I said, it could be nothing and probably is, but just to be on the safe side. As long as your BP is good and your glucose test came back fine, then I'm sure all is well. I'm swollen too, it's the worst, my wedding rings don't fit anymore! I hate that, had to go buy a fake one, lol! Anyway, good luck at the doc's, remember that it's good to ask questions, that's what they're there for. I go in w/ a list sometimes, haha! Good luck w/ the rest of your pregnancy, hang in there, you're almost at the finish line!! :-)

Oh I know, no more wedding rings for me!! And I had to loose the watch too!!! Cripes! LOL - yes, I will definitely be asking a few questions this time...usually its so bloody rushed and I forget!! :(

Hi...I am almost 37 wks and very swollen too. It's miserable. I saw my dr. yesterday and she was not concerned about it because I show no signs of pre-eclampsia. She said if I wanted to help the swelling go down to lay on my left side for a few extra hours a day. She said when she puts people on bed rest for high blood bp they usually drop a few pounds in fluid overnight if they are on their left side. She explained why to my dh, but I really didn't understand. Hope this helps.

I meant high blood pressure. :-)
