I had my weekly doctor’s appointment today (35.5 wks), and it didn’t go as smoothly as I would have liked. My appointment was scheduled for 8:45 AM and I didn’t even get called back until 10:30 AM. I went back and did the normal routine—weight and urine sample. As I was taken the urine sample, I tipped the cup and managed to spill urine on my pants and the restroom floor. As I labeled my sample, I marked my fingers with the black permanent marker (which I promptly transferred to my belly and thighs as I pulled up my pants). I got on the scale--- I gained 3.5 lbs in one week!
Then the nurse gave me an ultrasound: the baby weighed 6 lbs 10 oz (up from 5 lbs 11 oz last week)! The nurse assured me that there was room for error in the measurements. So after the ultrasound, the nurse left me to wait for the doctor. After another 45 minutes, the nurse came in and told me that the doctor had been called for an emergency c-section and she would try to finish the exam of my cervix. I agreed, being that it was nearing on 3 hours since I’d been waiting to the doctor. Well, the nursed tried alright, but she was unable to feel my cervix at all. The nurse finally gave up. She said that because the baby was still very high up, she doubted much progress on my cervix had been made in the last week.
So I left, disgusted and slightly in pain from the failed exam. Three hours wasted and I still didn’t see the doctor! So now we do this all again next week. Until then….
