who did you have cut your babies cord? my DH doesnt want to...he says he doesnt like the idea of cutting flesh...it makes him sick...i think its silly...so i asked my mom to cut it, and she was estatic...but what do you all think??

Anyone can cut it. My friend was my couch during last pregnancy, dh just sat in the corner, he doesn't like blood, flesh etc, neither do I personally but my friend was very happy and honored to do it. So as long as your mom is in the room with you, she can cut it. Why not? She will be the proud grandma.

My husband doesn't want to cut the cord either. He'll be the only person in the room with me so there is no one to do it other than the doctors. I say if your mom wants to then good for her!

my sister was in the room with me but she didn't want to cut it, so to my surprise the dr asked me if i wanted to!! so i got to cut my own baby's cord. it was pretty neat. :)

With all of our babies, both DH and I cut the cord together. It is always a special moment for us. We'll do it again with this one. But if your DH doesn't want to - let your Mum do it. It'll be special for her and you! Each to their own...;-)

My dh did with our first baby (our ds). But, with #2 (dd) there were complications, so he didn't, and with #3 (another ds) I was asleep under general anesthesia and he wasn't allowed in the room, so obviously he didn't then, either. He was the only one I was allowing at the deliveries, so it's good he wanted to- hehe.

Ew. I totally forgot about that tradition. I think my husband is going to want to do it for sure. He's the type that loves to watch medical shows about surgery and always wants to see and be part of all of my tests and health stuff. I know if it were me, I would NEVER be able to do it. Just the sight of the umbilical cord is enough to make me faint, let alone cut into it! I watched a video last week on labour online and they showed the placenta and I swear to god, I almost threw up. I never knew how big it was! EEEEEEEEEEW.

yourtrish , i'm just like you, can't stand the site of anything. I remember with my daughter when i was pushing the nurse was like 'aww look at the head' i just closed my eyes and said there is no way in hell i'm looking down there.

My cousin had her mother cut the cord, and to this day (5 years later) she's pleased as punch that she got to do it. I've also heard of women who want to cut it themselves so if Dh doesn't want to, there's options.

My dh cut it and loved it! and he asked to see the placenta and even passed it around on the plate thingy when the family came in, he loved all of it and acted as tho it was show and tell! ha ha hilarious. (but gross)

Hehe- you guys are hilarious. I'm not too squeamish usually, but when it comes to my c-sections- EWWWW!!! I echo you!!! My dh kept looking over the curtain to see what was going on during the first and second c-sections. I, on the other hand, was ready to faint just imagining what it might look like- lol.
