Does It Hurt?

Well I will be 38 weeks on Friday too and it doesn't hurt , maybe a little, just relax while they check. |

didnt hurt when i wasnt in labor...but once labor began.....i really, really was not looking forward to being touched there at all...owie!!!...but its all part of it, right? |

I think it depends on the size (length and fatness) of docs fingers, how much lube he uses, and where the cervix is located PLUS how gentle the doc is. Generally docs are pretty gentle about it and really lube up. Whereas nurses at the hospital use this little tiny pouch of lube which doesn't help much and then just ram their fingers in there. BUT this of course is just MY opinion of the nurses I have seen -- I know they're not ALL that way. |

It's not that different from having a pap smear. But don't be alarmed if you spot afterwards - I always did, and it's normal at 38 weeks. |

I think having a pap smear hurts more than doc checking for dilation. Well and the pap smear isnt even all that painful just uncomfortable, you know what I mean? But I've had a doc check me and a nurse practitioner (wow i cant spell today) and neither one of them hurt. Like Mimoze said just relax, you'll be fine. |
