Hi, I hate to admit it but i have been smoking during this pregnancy. I thought it would be easy but its certainly not. I have not smoked full time, i smoke approx 2-4 cigarettes per day but some days go by and i don't smoke at all. I smoke mostly when i don't have my son which is every other weekend and wednesday nights. I know i have read that no cigarettes are good during pregnancy and her i am in my last month still struggling and am wondering is there really any point in it now?
Thanks,

i am no one to judge, and i can just imagin how bad of an addiction it is if u r still smoking in ur final month, but really come on who comes first u or ur baby? u r just thinking about urself, have u told ur dr yet? u should have seeked help from the begining. I just hope that ur baby comes out very healthy, i will pray for ur baby. :(

Kristin72 - October 21st, 2009 11:37 PM

i agree with jess. I can only pray your little baby is ok when it is born..then again down the road who knows what kind of damage you have done longterm. You have not put your baby's needs first. When your baby is born he/she will probably need to light up..maybe you can put a cigarette in it's mouth and keep up the the babies addiction too. This is just pathetic..I am sorry but I have no remorse for someone who knowly could hurt an umborn baby and put their life at risk plus the baby does not ask to come into this world...try to think about the baby's health and yours for that matter. Good luck.. to your poor baby.

wow! but i don't feel like shooting myself right now, i just came for some support.

jessi01 - October 22nd, 2009 12:50 PM

BABYB, WE DONT MEAN TO BE RUDE, BUT WHAT DO U WANT US TO TELL U, THAT ITS OK TO SMOKE AT LEAST ONE, WELL ITS NOT GONNA HAPPEN, U R PUTTIN UR BABY'S HEALTH AT RISK, WHAT UR ADDICTION IS SO BAD U COULD NOT STOP FOR 9 MONTHS? WHAT ABOUT WHEN U R GOING TO BREASTFEED, ITS GOING TO EFFECT UR BABY AS WELL.
THERE ARE SO MANY WOMEN THAT CANT GET PREGO AND WILL DO ANYTHING TO HAVE A LIL ANGEL, AND U R BASICALLY KILLING URS, THINK ABOUT IT. I REALLY WISH U THE BEST AND HOPE UR BABY COMES OUT BEAUTIFUL AND HEALTHY :)

If you want support get medical support to help you quit. The best gift you can give your baby is health. Be smart..you can do it...just think of the fragile little baby who is breathing the over 200 toxic constiuents with every puff you take. A baby is so fragile as it is and deserves clean air. Do it for the baby if not for yourself.. you should only have a short time left if you are in the third trimester. Unfortunately alot of damage would have been done in the formative time in the first trimester. Now the continued smoking is just killing all the vital cells that it is working so hard to build and your baby will have to deal with withdrawl. (This just makes my heart ache) Again I wish your baby all the best..and just remember smoking is a choice..and so many women acutally majority of women quit while pregnant. So you can too. good luck btw I have a 4 week old and have suffered 5 losses so I would NEVER do anything to hurt the life of an unborn child. :(

Babyb, I was just looking around in this forum and not signed up until I saw your post. I am soooo freaking livid about the thread I have just read that I signed up just to be able to speak to you.

First of all, I want to say that the people who are responding to you are likely people who are non smokers or who have not smoked in several years. Shame on them!!!!! Shame on them for judging you instead of encouraging you! I can't stand to hear other people chastise someone else when they have no idea what you are going through or how far you have actually come. I commend you for getting down to 2 to 4 cigarettes a day. During my last pregnancy I did the same, and my Dr. was very supportive as I had a 1 pack per day habit. The minute my son was placed in my arms, I quit smoking. I did nurse and never wanted a cigarette during the time that I was nursing. Actually, after I quit nursing I started having serious cravings, but I made it through.

Are you doing what's best for your baby? No, but I believe that you are working really hard to do the right thing, and I appreciate the fact that you are trying. There are tons of people out there that continue to smoke and drink like nothing has changed.

I'm very sorry that you came to this forum for some support and encouragement and all you got was criticism. What the heck is wrong with people????? Best of luck to you and your little one. Keep plugging away at it, you will get there!

well i appreciate your support, so thank you. I quit smoking in february of this year and concieved at the end of february. I stayed smoke free for three months but life factors brought me back to it. I have not smoked full time since then, just when i feel the urge- i guess i'll say.

Lyn717 - November 4th, 2009 6:02 PM

I understand. It's just a shame that nobody bothered to consider what personal factors there may be going on in your life. There are people out there who are smokers and are also on mood altering medications. Let's face it, you can't take most mood altering medications while pregnant. I just get soooo infuriated when people choose to judge rather than encourage and assist. Best of luck to you Babyb and congratulations.

I used to smoke before I got pregnant. I decided to stop smoking for my baby. It was the best thing I did. I'm glad I stoped, and I felt better after stoping, because I felt my self out of breath. Well I'm almost due to give birth. I'm not going back to smoking. I feel so healthly now. I wish you the best of luck. You can work thru this. I know it's hard, but do it for your baby. Even going from 1 pack to half pack is a bbig improvement. We are not God to judge. We are all sinners here. No one is perfect so give people a chance. She needs support not someone that is going to put her down. She never said that smoking was good for her baby. She is an adult, and she must decided to do what is best.

My mother smoked with me while she was pregnant and she was a pack a day smoker and I'm totally fine. I have sports induced asthma, but other than that, I was born at a healthy weight, and got to come home with my mom. I'm currently on my third child and I smoked with my first two, and they as well were fine. I smoke off and on with this one, and while I do worry about my childrens health (both born and unborn) I dont think you negative mom's realize how truly difficult it is to "just quit". Babyb, just relax and keep trying, you and your baby will be fine. I've known mothers who smoke a lot more than us and their baby's are born healthier than some mothers who freak out and are all health nuts.

lunamoo - November 21st, 2009 5:04 AM

Yes smoking and/or drinking alcohol will bring on the "holier than thou" crowd. So what about those non smokers who use pregnancy to gorge themselves to gain 40 plus pounds....? UNHEALTHY. Or those who do no excercise...UNHEALTHY. In fact who can judge what is worse, smoking a few ciggaretts a day, a glass of wine, eating like a pig and loafing around...? And for those who go on the bandwagon as "your addiction is more important than your baby..." obviously have no idea and experience with addiction. Lyn717 gave a kind response. Good luck, don't worry.

BlazznMama - November 22nd, 2009 7:38 PM

I absolutely agree with Lynn717 when i was pregnant with my first son i smoked about 2 packs a week! i was 19 years old and was around people that smoked constantly and even with a number of people smoking in a house all smoking at once with no freakn window or air ventalation! I hated it when people would do that around me when i was tryn to quit but to top it off when i was pregnant! But i got it down to 3-4 a week down to 1 to 3 every other week just take the edge off because of the stress around me..

Im not saying its healthy to be smoking cigs while pregnant but i told my doctor and since i did smoke so much before i got pregnant and the first tri of my pregnancy my doctor recommended that i gradually cut down instead of stopping cold turkey. All those that are non smokers sound so idiotic that they are so shocked at you..when they probably are lifetime addicts of coffee or smoothies or damn donuts and act as if they never had an addiction or they dont have addictions and will be ignorant to the real shit that people go through in life.
I had a friend that had a family member of theres that used methamphetamines(cant spell)pills, and drank alchol throughtout all 3 of her pregnancies and all her children are well developed and are over all healthy children, that dont have any mental or physical disablities or any birth defects of any kind, you can only thank god in those kinds of cases. Its disgusting and inhuman but honestly cig are the least you should be worried about dissing her on!
Im not justifying anything im well aware of the risks and the effects and the importance of good health in a pregnancy Im just trying to open peoples eyes to the world we live in, and that when it comes to our children they are the one and only thing in this world that is absolute. There is nothing i wouldnt do for my children especially before myself.
