A few days ago I woke up and was having some spotty vision to where I really couldn't read much in front of me. It was very bright in our kitchen and I hadn't eaten yet that day so I thought maybe too much light and no food. I laid down as my husband read in the What to Expect book that if it goes on for more than 2 hours to call the doctor. It went away after about 20 min. but did return once more later that morning. Anyone else have any episodes like this? I'll be sure to mention to my doctor this week. I'm 36 weeks.

Im not sure if you are describing the same thing I had/have or not. Its kind of like there are a million little tiny black bugs flying around in front of your eyes. There are a couple reasons that this could happen. 1. your blood pressure might be a bit high (something to look into asap) 2. your blood sugars might have been low.. so you need to eat a lot of smaller meals OR 3. your blood sugar could have been a little high. On wednesday I asked my doc about it.. and those are the reasons he gave. Ive found that if i eat many small meals I dont have it, but if i start eating too far apart Ill get them. I hope everything is okay with you!! ~Kristin~

It sounds like a migrane to me. They are triggered by bright lights sometimes, and some people get the aura without a headache. The aura usually lasts around 20 minutes and can be accompanied by clumsiness too. Sometimes it is one eye or both and can come across as a blind spot (making it very hard to read) or a bright zig zag line in one part of your vision. It could also be low blood pressure, but that usually happens when you go from sitting to standing too quickly, now when you are just sitting there trying to read. If you ever get it and it lasts do call your doctor, but my bet is that it was an aura from a migrane and just didn't follow up with the headache. I get them a lot third trimester. Oh yeah, dry eyes can cause it too. If you have recently turned your heat on and your house is dry that can cause blurry vision and make reading difficult until your tears eventually fix the problem.

I'm concerned about what you said, jennifer. And I feel that sometimes that book tries so hard to be re-asssuring to us mommies that it goes too far that way. It's somewhat commmon to get PIH problems at your point in pregnancy, which can sometimes be serious, and you wouldn't feel anything if your blood pressure is very high. I would call your doc's office and ask them to check your BP and your urine for proteine ASAP. Then if everythings okay, you can relax and put you feet up, with a cool glass of water, and more water (he hee--do you ever feel like you drink a river a day? I do) Take care!

I really think you should call your doctor and discuss it with them as spotty/blurry vision can be a sign of preeclampsia and they would really need to keep their eye on you if that were the case. Although it could be nothing, you should really let them know ASAP :)

Pregnancy induced hypertension or preenclampsia is what this sounds like.
Usually paired with swelling, headaches.
Lay on your left side if possible. And yes, talk to you doctor.

Thanks everyone for replying. I am due to go to the doctor in the morning and having had any other vision issues since last Friday. It is on my list of things to discuss since it really has been the only off thing that has happened to me during this whole pregnancy.
