Hi Bubbasmom. I was just wondering what kind of symptoms your son had when he was getting his urine infections? My son has been having them as well since 14 months when he had a febrile seizure. He is not circumsized either. I am wondering as well if the infections are due to not being circumsized. We will be seeing a specialist on May 20. He doesn't show any signs of infection whatsoever. Therefore, we are regularly doing urinalysis. He acts the same no matter how sick he is. He is a tough little guy!! I am really hoping we do not have to get him circumsized and he will out grow these uti's.

Well, his first symptom was a fever at around 7 weeks. It started around 101 or 102 and then jumped to 103-104 when he had a febrile seizure. Since he was still a newborn he was admitted to the hopsital and we discovered he had a uti. His ped. said it was just a fluke but then he got another one about 2 months later. Again, his only real sympton was a fever followed by a seizure (mind you, he was to little to complain about anything). We were then referred to a urologist and he had an ultrasound done to rule out reflux, which he didn't have. The urologist again said it was a fluke, but my son then developed another uti (lucky he did not have a seizure this time as I was constantly checking his temperature and would have a urine sample drawn as soon as he got a fever). Anyways, he ended up having more testing done (I can't really remember what its called, but I believe its was related to dye and watching where the dye went on a monitor). We discovered he had a megaureter and hydronephrosis. basically, his uretur on the left side was a bit too large and he had some fluid in his kidney. He developed one final uti. I wish I could remember how old he was - I think around 6 months and his ped. and urologist recommended circumcision. He was circumsized at 10 months but I remember he hadn't had a uti for a few months leading up to the surgery. The urologist said most boys outgrow it so I really don't know if he outgrew it before the circumsicion or if the surgery truly helped. I think he may have outgrown the kidney issues since he had no uti's leading up to his surgery. Anyways, his only real symptoms were a fever and his urine smelled much more potent and strong. He is now two and we had 2 ultrasounds between his surgery and now. The last ultrasound was about 3 weeks ago and showed that his kidney is normal. So, unless he has any more problems, the urologist considered him normal and no more follow-up is needed. So, the ped. thinks my son not being circumsized my have worsened the problem, but my son also had some other issues causing his utis. I am pregnant with another boy and he will defintely be circumsized and we are having a 3 trimester ultrasound to look for kidney issues. I hope my lengthy story has helped. Good luck and feel free to ask me anymore questions. Or, if I wasn't clear, just ask me to explain again.

Thanks for responding. Sure sounds alot like we have been going through. My son has only had the one seizure which will be a year in July. We had the proceedure done as well where they insert a catheter and run a dye. They never found anything. The only strange thing is his urine tests keep coming back with a fecal contamination. I'm not sure if that is good or bad. I'm really nervous about seeing this Urologist. I think my son has a phobia for doctors now. When he had his seizure they had a very difficult time getting blood. I think it took over a half hour of poking him everywhere. The minute I pull out a urine bag he starts to cry. Poor guy!
