Has anyone used clortrimazole to cure a bad diaper rash? Usually we don't have a problem with this, we just let DS run around nekkid for a night and that seems to cure it. He's been bad the last week, on and off, we just keep fighting it. My friend got it from her pediatrician... anyone else have luck with it?

I use clortimazole cream at the first sign of a diaper rash and it works wonderfully. The key is to use it as soon as the redness occurrs and continue with each diaper change (no more than every 2 and a half to 3 hours) until the redness and or bumps are completely gone. I buy the equate brand from Wal-Mart, it is less expensive and works beautifully. I have found that the prescription lotion burns and Nystatin (also prescription) just doesn't work very well. My daughters skin breaks down very quickly so i also use a 40% zinc oxide diaper cream on her all the time. The Kroger brand is the only one around here that has that much zinc oxide. I know you can get it at Fred Meyer and probably Kroger as well. Clortrimazole cream is not neccesarily prescription and the over the counter stuff is just as good. You will find it in the foot care section at Wal-Mart and it is only about $5.00 and the tube is pretty good size. If you use this the diaper rash will be better by the 2nd diaper change... I PROMISE!!! Let me know how it goes.

spamanda - we used it recently too - for the first time. My dd had an AWFUL diaper rash that would not get better with Desitin - which usually always does the trick for her. I believe we were actually still sharing a yeast infection (she is still bf)...anyway - started her on the clortrimazole as well as Diflucan and she cleared up quick.

I had to use it with my daughter who is now almost 9 months. She was on antibiotics for an ear infection and got very bad diarrhea which led to VERY bad diaper rash. The pediatrician prescribed the cream to be used twice a day and at every other diaper change we were to use triple paste. The combination worked instantly. We also gave her cornstarch baths and let her bottom dry completely before putting her diaper on. I even used the hair dryer on low temp to blow dry her bottom once. Good luck. Let us know how it goes.

Hey everyone, just wanted to say thanks... this seems to really be working. It's been the same darn thing on and off, we'd think we had it licked and then it would be back in full force. So hopefully this time it doesn't come back, or else we'll have to go in to the doc. Thank you! ~spam
