Wow! That's amazing. You have such a smart little boy. :) My daughter counts to 3 (at roughtly the same age), but it ends there. LOL. I try to give her more numbers, but she looks at me like I'm an idiot. You're going to have a smarty-pants on your hands. |

Our daughter will be three in February and by the time she was 18 months old she was counting to 20, knew the alphabet and could recognize the letters. Now she has figured out that after 29 comes 30, then 31-39, then 40 and so on. We started to really concentrate on counting with her and reciting the alphabet at about a year of age. She caught on very quickly. It sounds like your child is doing great as well. It is so important to give children a headstart before preschool and then kindergarten. |

My daughter is 18 months and can usually count 1-10 without any help. She learned it from a count with Elmo book. |

Nick's 23 months and he can count to about 20 in English and to about 10 in French (DH is French). He's been counting for a while - not sure exactly when he started counting to 10 or so well - roughly 6 months ago. It was funny when he started learning counting at the nursery because they'ld learn a number a day and he only went three days a week so he kept going round saying 5, 6, 7 and then clapping himself. He went through a phase of counting everything esp the stairs. Sophie could count up to 10 in both languages between 1 and 1.5. I think there's a big variation in what age kids do these things at. I know my Mum said my brother said almost nothing until 3 (he's sure made up for it since). |

Wow, look at all these clever toddlers! I wasn't expecting my ds to be a prodigy of any sort, but I guess it just shocks me and makes me sad to think he is getting so big. And he absorbs everything like a sponge. It makes me proud to think his mind is starting to grasp things like this but also sad to think before I can blink he is going to be in school and becoming a boy. He is my first-born so I'm very sentimental...lol! |

He is going to be very smart. I say that from experience. My oldest could reconize all his ABC and could count to 20 by the time he was 2.5. He also could read before kindergarten. He is 10 now and he makes all A's and scores ay above garde level in everything. My second son started counting at 3 or 3.5 and is in kindergarten now and he just finished learning all his lowercase letters and sounds, and is now working on sight words, but can't read yet. So in my experience he will be very bright! |

Bridget started counting around 18 months. She is now 2 and will count to 20 and will go to 12 in spanish (thank you, Dora the Explorer!) I think the learning toys and books and TV shows available to todays babies makes them learn things earlier with less effort on our part. :) |

My daughter is 3 and a half now, and she knew all the letters by sight by 16 mths and could say the alphabet by 2. She started counting around 18 mths, but still can only count to 15, however she has been writing the letters of the alphabet since 3 and knows how to spell her name and her brothers name and is starting to sound out words. I am certain she will be reading well before Kindergarten. I think some children are like sponges and learn everything you give them really quickly. We had a tendency to focus on the letters and not so much on the numbers, so that is where her strength is. My son however is going to be 2 in February and is just starting to speak well. He mimics his sister when she counts, but doesn't have any interest in it on his own. I definately think your little one is going to be very bright, and if he has an interest I would strongly suggest that you pursue it. As another mom said before, it is really a good idea to build on their skills before preschool/Kindergarten. |
