I'm in the process of buying a house and the kids will get a bedroom each which we can decorate. I have a DS of 2 years and a DD of 3 years. I asked them what they wanted a DD wants Peppa Pig but I'm not sure I want a 4 foor picture of a pig on her curtains and duvet - lol and I'm not sure she'll want that at 15. I asked DS what he wanted and he wanted a Miffy duvet which is pink with rabbits on or a Thomas duvet or Peter rabbit. Think probably only Thomas would be suitable for a boy past 5. Just wondered if you gave your kids a say in their rooms or would you decide for them? I guess the duvet cover doesn't matter too much as will be changed after a few years anyway but maybe should just get plain curtains or very cheap ones. Peter rabbit seems to be almost impossible to get hold of over here anyway unless you pay a lot for made to measure curtains and duvets which I'm reluctant to do as at this age they change their minds once a week.

I let my daughet help me- we have pretty much had care bears since birth and she is turning 3 and i am going to make her a quilt/curtains/pillows/ etc and she get to choose hello kitty or my little pony (she had about 10 things she wanted i narrowed it down and she still feels like she gets to pick). I plan on changing the rooms every few years anyway so its not too big a deal to me ;)

Definitely let them chose how their rooms are decorated- within reason ofcourse. When our daughter was 20 months we converted her room to a "big girl room" and she wanted butterflies. I took her to the department store and let her chose. She just turned three and she still loves her room. Every new person to visit our home has to make a stop in her room to admire her butterflies. I love that she chose it herself and it turned out perfect. I added my own touches, but the concept was hers.

I have to agree with mjvdec, it is important to take their opinion into consideration. Its what they want. I plan to let my DD chose he decorations when she is around 2, for now its a blue room with stars and around the baseboards is green with flowers and butterflies.... I dont plan to have her room look like that forever, since her likes will change, and its refreshing to change things up every few years...so I would say always consider their opinion on this, it will make them feel helpful, and they will like their rooms much better

Thanks for the replies. I guess I'm going to be decorating their rooms every few years then at least at first. I'm definately letting them have a say but may not be decorating until late March/April as have to buy house first and my DD has had three change of minds so far so I'm not rushing to buy anything. She has asked for 24 mirrors in her room with many mirrors in her bed and the sky " as I like looking at myself" and "to see my beautiful hair" - think she may just get one!
