Hello, I was wondering if anyone has had any children diagnosed with a greenstick fracture or anything similar? My dd is 2.5yrs and won't stand and put weight on her foot. I didn't see exactly what happened but at a friend's yesterday she came off the side of a slide, at the bottom of it. Didn't fall but I thought she must have put her foot down funny. I had figured it was a sprain or twist but there's no bruise or swelling. She doesn't object to me handling her foot but pulls her leg away when I feel it. After reading around on the net I'm concerned it could be one of these sort of breaks but don't know if there should be any visible physical signs. I also don't know what treatment if any to expect but depending on how she is in the morning I will go to our doctor anyway. It's frustrating her and she is trying to get up on it, otherwise she was keen to go to her swimming lesson this morning and managed fine as she still has movement. Any insight is really appreciated, Thank you.

I feel terible that I've left it for a day but I had dismissed the idea of anything being broken as I believed kids this age don't get broken bones. I've since found on the net that there have been babies born with greenstick fractures.

Turns out that it is a sprain after all. So just so you know, they can have a greenstick fracture without any swelling or bruising being visible. My Mum took her in for the xrays and she was apparently pefect. The radiologist propped her into all sorts of positions and she kept very still all the time. He was so impressed and I'm such a proud Mum. Our doctor was able to view the xrays without the report and we could see no sign of damage. So if the radiologists report proves otherwise, all is good and I won't be drawing the wiggles clan on any cast. The doc will call me if there is anything but I'm satisfied enough with his verdict anyhow. Just thought I'd follow up on this post in case anyone has future concerns for their own. Cheers

Yikes. Ow! I'm glad it wasn't a break. I haven't had this happen yet with my kids, but good to know if it ever does! Thanks!

Same here. I remembered a story that a lady I worked with years ago told me. Her son fell off his trike at about 3yrs old. He wasn't upset and seemed unhurt. Days passed and one evening she was helping him out of the bath holding his hands and he started screaming. He had broken his arm falling off his trike, she felt so sick. This memory prompted me to look it up. I never knew the difference between a hairline fracture and a greenstick fracture but they are totally, completely different.
