My 18 month old went for his booster shots and check-up today. At 15 months he weighed 24lbs 4oz, and now today (almost 3.5 months later) he weighs 23lbs 6oz. He has lost weight! The nurse didn't say anything but I don't think she even noticed. He has been very very picky the last couple of months and barely eats anything because he just flat out refuses. What to do! Is this normal at this age? should I been a little concerned?

BTW his weight his now between the 10th-25th percentile. During his 1st year he was always between the 50th-75th percentile.

Have you ever tried giving him Pediasure? It's for picky eaters, it's sorta like a formula for kids over 1 it has everything they need in it for a day.

Hi DDT....DS is also 18 mos. He hasn't been for his check up yet...but I'm almost positive he has lost weight also. I would say he is about 23 lbs. He also refuses to eat. I'm lucky if I can get him to eat one good meal. I think it is jus their age and gaining independence. What did ImpatientMommy suggest to give him? For some reason it blocked it?!?!

Yup, I was thinking I may need to go the Pediasure route but didn't know if this was enough to warrant it. His body shape is changing and become more like a little boy. No Buddha belly and big butt anymore. I didn't think he had lost weight though. I think I will go get him weighed again in another month and see how he is doing. If there has been no increase or more of a decrease in his weight I will have to stock up on some Pediasure (after talking with my family doc of course). BWIND: Pedia-sure (I have hypenated it and maybe that will allow you to see it. Its a flavoured milk-based nutritional drink for lo's when they are getting enough nutrition from their solids. I am sure you have heard of it or seen it in the grocery store.

My kids have done this also. My ds who is now 8 lost weight and I think my dd just pretty much remained the same for about a year. I think they find so many other things to do that they don't care to eat. Kids are expert at judging what they need, they don't take in food unless they need it. Don't worry, in a few years he'll discover how good food can be and you'll have to chase him out of the kitchen!
