My eleven month old had been cio for a little over a month. I've read it normally only takes about a week. Some nights she crys for only a few minutes and then other nights for 15! Is it time to just give up?

Well i guess the question is, are you going back in there on the nights she is crying for 15 min? If yes you should stop and let her realize you aren't comming. If no, then i agree that it's taking too long and it might be time to talk to her pedi and see what he/she recomends.

I've only done that a few times within just the past week because she was freaking out so bad and I thought there was something wrong with her. Twice I went in there and she only needed to burp and then was fine after that.

Usually 11 month olds don't need help to burp, maybe she is have tummy problems. I think you should still consult her doctor. I mean 3 weeks of not going in there and no progress is a little unusual. Do you have a bedtime routine? LIke play a little, take a bath, read a story with the lights low. I do that with my dd and i think it helps b/c she knows she is getting ready for bed.

Her routine is short, but was seeming to work ok...Normally I just hold her for a couple of minutes while in her room with only her nite-lite on, just to calm her a bit before putting her in the crib. I always have her favorite lullably cd playing low to keep her relaxed. I mean, she's always cried alittle since ive been letting her cio, but the past week, i'll lay her in her crib, she'll be ok for like 10 mintues, and then she'll start screaming her head off. A couple of minutes of crying doesn't bother me, but when it last for like 15-20 minutes after doing it for a month...i agree...there's got to be something wrong.

Kim- I answered on the infant care forum. My dd did this she is very stubborn and could carry on forever!!! But ultimately she was alright and she eventually got over it and is a great sleeper. It was soo worth it. But call your pedi if you think something is wrong, trust your gut...

Kim, i have done CIO with my daughter, and it usually is pretty fast to take, though sometimes she falls back into having to do it again, however there was a few times she was "more upset" than normal- and it turns out it was for multiple reasons, once she was still hungry (guess she was going through a growth spurt) once she still had energy so she played for another hour then tuckered out, once she just wanted more milk before bed, and once she just wanted to see her daddy before she would settle, her fighting sleep so hard was because something was stressing her from falling asleep....and once that "stressor" was finished she was fine, like your daughter needing to burp...mine did that once, but it was to pass gas, the pressure of me holding her against my pregnant stomach somehow helps her, and she passed it instantly and almost jumped back into her crib, and I have burped my daughter as well, sometimes she does need help (though using the gas medicine a lot helps too!) and my dd is 13 months old... so if her crying seems MORE persistant than her normal cio, its probably because something is hindering her from relaxing, just like it would with you if say you thought you left the stove on, or didn't lock the door, you would have to get up and check before you could fall asleep.... ...Good Luck
