Hi, just recently my 2.5 year old dd will purposely babble like an infant and do facial expressions like an infant. She speaks very well and is very bright and smart for her age...can count to 10 and sing the alphabet but just recently started this. Anyone else familiar with this? TIA...

My DD does this sometimes too. I think they are just being silly and get a kick out of our reaction to it. She can say her name, Alyssa but lately when we ask her what her name is she says "alah" and laughs. I think she is making a joke. I wouldnt worry about it too much.

She probably does it for the attention she gets from you when she does it. I also think it is just part of pretend play that all kids do. It can also be a sign of jealousy if there is a baby in the house now. Even my boys went through a short phase where they would talk baby talk and say "me" instead of "I" and stuff like that. I just corrected them and tried not to make them think I thought it was cute and it past. Just don't make a big deal out of it and she will forget about it soon. She is probably perfectly aware that smaller babies get lots of attention so maybe she feels if she acts smaller she will get the same attention.

my 2.5 year old is the exact same way...except she went back to the baby stage after our 2nd was born. Now she will only drink from a bottle again and wants to be held like a baby. I read in Parents magazine that it's normal and a phase...they will grow out of it.
