Please anyone who can help me - I am really concerned for my bubba girl - brief history- My bubba is almost 9 months old - has been breast fed in conjunction with solids from 5 months on. Always been a great eater and LOVED the booby. OK on Wednesday last week I tried her on 120 mls of formula as i am back at work and want to be able to offer formula if needed. Anyway she took it and drank it and seemed fine. Thurs gave her 120 mls formula at her 11am feed - again took it and seemed fine. Thurs at around 5pm my hubby rings me freaking out as Kira is projectile vomiting (she didnt usually vomit as little bub so very unusual) and was to the point where she was dry reaching and kind of gagging. He also said she was very sleepy and falling asleep in his arms - also another thing she has never done as not very cuddley unless feeding at boob. OK - so we took her to hosp Thurs night - doc did assessment and deemed her to be ok - said maybe a reaction to formula, maybe something else? Anyway sent us home told us just to give her breast no solids for 24 hours. Went home and put her to boob - she ate and was hungry. About 1 minute after coming off boob projectile vomiting. Friday morning after a sleepless night for me (slept in Kiras room so I could hear her breathing!) she fed very little throughout the day and had some diarreaha - took her to docs (not regular doc as couldnt get in in such short notice - did an assessment - this doc told me maybe gastro but seemed ok. She slept and cried most of the day and would take water but very little else. Then Sat morning had about 3 minutes on boob - and that is the last time she has breastfed! Took her to hosp Sat late morning - spent most of day up there - pedi saw her and said look she is ok not dehydrated - just sick - off her milk she will come good in a day or 2... OK well its now bloody Wednesday and she STILL will not take milk of any form - the wierd thing is she will take solids but if i even TRY to get her on the breast she goes mental! She wont take expressed breast milk in bottle either - but will drink water from bottle - She will also eat sloppy cereal with breast milk - took her back to doc yesterday - she has lost wieght but still no one is taking me seriously and acting like its not a problem!! UM HELLO 9 month old baby here refusing to take milk of any kind!!!! :( So at moment I am giving her sloppy cereal with as much breast milk in it as possible when I would normally breast feed her, and then solids as normal and as much water as I can get into her. She seems ok but isnt my normal happy bub. PLEASE if anyone has any suggestions or has been here please let me know - I am really stressed and have basically been crying for last couple of days now - Am making an app to get into her regular doc - hopefully by Friday. Thanks if you made it all the way trough that novel! X

Take her to Children's Hospital if you are in the states. If not then take her to your equivelent. You need to be an advocate for her. You are her mother and you know something is wrong. Wether it is serious or not, you need an actual answer. Doctors usually go with the obvious. It isn't until you push that they begin to look at other things. Maybe she has reflux, or an allergy, maybe she is having mouth or throat pain- why that would make her vomit is questionable. I know how you must feel, your baby is hurting from something and you haven't been able to protect her from that yet. We have a three year old and our son is 9 and a half months. I can only imagine your frustration. Speak up to the doctor and don't let him, or her, tell you nothing is wrong when you know something is. If need be, BF her in the office to demonstrate exactly what is happening. Sometimes that can be helpful. Don't feel self concious about BF'ing in front of the pediatrician either. He or she is there for that kind of thing too and should be more than willing to witness firsthand. I am so sorry you and your little one have to go through this. If you want to talk more you can email me. Here is code for my email address. amanda venable at msn, then a period and then come, without the e. If that made it past the filters then I must be a genius.

Hey mjvdec01 - thanks for your comments. I think the main problem is the fact that she now associates milk of any kind with being violently sick!! Poor bub. It has been the most stressfull week of my life! Brief update - I got her to take a small amount of expressed breast milk this morning - not much but a start! She also put my nipple in her mouth and sucked a few times before cracking it completely so that has to be an improvement from not going anywhere near it. Am going to try her on expressed milk again at 11 and hold her in the breast feeding position and then see if she will take breast at all? Will keep you updated - I will never whinge about her wanting the boob all the time again! God I miss nursing her - didnt think I would this much.... :)

I am so relieved to hear that. I hope things continue to go well. You seemed so upset. Keep me updated. :)

Well I am about to go home and try again with boob! Will let you know tomorrow - I have been so upset - I guess it just seemed soooo overwhelming - if she was just sick but nursing I dont think I would have gotten so panicked! Talk soon! :)

OK UPDATE:
Got home from work yesterday arvo and tried her on boob again - not interested AT ALL... was pretty upset and discouraged - Poor thing was very screamy yesty too. BUT!!! Doc called back - have results from poo test - she has a nasty called Cryptosporidiosis - yucky parasite that attacks the intestines - I think she may have got it in a public pool - its passed through poo - like if a kidy pooed in pool - apparently chlorine doesnt always kill it. ANYWAY good news is I know what we are dealing with - bad news is there is no treatment except TLC and panadol - could take up to another 2 weeks to get out of her system! :( AND another exciting update - she went on booby for a short time this morn!!! Tried again before work but she wasnt interested - but its still progress yes???? I really hope she feels better soon!!! Lots of love, rest and as much booby milk I can trick her into taking is the answer - bit reluctant to take her back to swimming classes now but apparently this is pretty common?????

That is great that you know what it is, but awful there is nothing you can really do to get rid of it quickly. You do need to contact the facility where she has her swim classes, and they need to do a proper cleaning of the pool. If it were me, It were me, I wouldn't take her back to that pool. I would be afraid everytime I took her in. Anyway, I'm glad you have it figured out.

Hey mjvdec01 - yeah the doctor actually rang dept of health and reported the pool for testing - apparently they have too - I know - I am a bit scared to ever take her back too!!

UPDATE: Well FINALLY my little bub is ALMOST back to normal - she is back on the boob and making up for lost time haha - It is a huge relief and I think the breastmilk has helped get her better too - she was a bit scared at first like taking a few sips then coming off crying then going back on - but now I have to pry her off haha - I must admit I am very glad to be nursing her again :)
