Potty Training

You are right, once you put big boy underwear on him I would NOT go back to diapers for any reason. With my dd I did put her in pull ups at night during the training process (and I still do, she is not even 3 yet, but fully potty trained during the day and even during naps). I would just tell her, "youre just going to wear this at night, when you get up we are putting on your pretty big girl panties again". She really didnt have a problem with it and was fully potty trained in about 3 days. |

Our daughter is day time potty trained and on her way to being night time trained as well. We call her pull-ups "night-time panties". Don't refer to them as diapers. I used the potty train in a day method. I made the whole process a big party. I decorated the bathroom we would be using like party city threw up, had treats, sweet drinks and potty books. In the morning I gave her a doll that wets, wrapped like a present, with panties on. The doll was named and had breakfast with us like she was a real person. Then we spent the morning potty training the doll. Our daughter was still in her diapers for this. The doll has to have about 12 trips to the potty with various outcomes, she goes on the potty, has accidents, both pee and poo for which peanut butter works great. After lunch it was her turn. The first day was quite an experience I must say, however, by day three she was accident free. She now tells me when she has to go and can get her pants and panties down and get up on the potty herself. We clean her most of the time, she isn't very effective in that respect. She also likes to play with the toilet paper, which drives me crazy. Anyway, if you would like the details of this method then let me know. It worked great for us and my other girlfriends that have used it. It took the stress off our daughter and made it really fun for her. |

Hello!!! My son is almost three and I potty trained him this summer b/c he wouldn't have to wear pants while we were at home. But yes, I would recommend staying home for two-three days and only using underwear. The first day was bad, the second day better the third day good. He had a problem pooping for a while but finally overcame that. I still put diapers on him at night. Most of the time he is dry in the morning but on occasion he has a wet one so I don't want to take a chance yet. And I just buy the target brand diapers b/c they are only 5 bucks and last an entire month. But it will take a few weeks for them to actually tell you they have to go potty. Good luck1!! |

My daughter will be three in February. I would have done the potty training earlier, but I was huge pregnant, and just couldn't face it. If you want instructions play by play you should email me. amandavenable at msn dot com. I would be happy to write them out for you. Are you thinking of doing this now at 16 months? I think that may be a bit early. Usually closer to two is great for girls. |

We just trained our daughter, except for pooping (she is still scared and wants a diaper for it). At night, set up the bed in layers and have extra pjs already layed out. on the bed we have a wet cover, sheet, wet cover, sheet- that way, if there is an accident we just tear one off and there is already another set and no one loses sleep! Almost 2 weeks and NO accidents. She was ready for it and she doesn't like wearing diapers during the day, so I hope she soon accepts pooping on the toilet! 2.5yrs old. |

I just bought my daughter a potty chair on Saturday. She is 15 months old and I figured this would take a lot longer than what it has so far. We didn't use it until Sunday and at the end of the day, the last time we put her on it before putting her to bed and she went. I put her on it first thing this morning when she got up and another success! Now I've been at work all day, and I'm not sure how she's doing with my mother, but I think 2 successful trips to the potty in a row is pretty good! I was fully potty trained myself at 18 months old. |

My son is 17 mo and even though we've successfully used the potty on many occasions, I know that with him it was just luck and good timing and that he is far from being ready to be potty trained. Some babies might be ready, not us. I read someone said that if you take a baby to potty every hour to catch their pees and poops - YOU are potty trained, but not the baby. That is definetly true with us. We are still using a potty as much as we can, but mostly so he is used to the idea and know what it is and how to use it when he is ready |
