My two and a half year old used the potty ( she went #2) and will not use it again! She is scared to try it again. It freaked her out when she went #2. So, I'm trying not to push her, cause I know she has no interest and is scared. But, I want to try and help her to try again. I tell her mommy and daddy use the potty and they aren't scared, etc. Any suggestions? I am due in April with baby #2 and I want her to get over this by then! Thanks for the help.

My 19 month old daughter does the same thing. Shes used it many times no problems but sometimes she acts scared to use it. I hadnt even planned on starting potty training yet because im due with #2 in Febuary and they say they regress when you bring a new baby home. We just bought one to have and she wanted to use it. But sometimes she'll have to go but refuse to go to the potty. Toddlers love to do whatever we do so i go and sit on the big potty say "mommys gotta potty" and she'll usually want to sit on hers too. And tell her what a big girl she is. I also tell her she'll get fruit snacks if she goes potty. Fruit snacks are her reward for using the potty. They say not to push them, that they'll do it when they're ready. And chances are when you bring home that new baby in diapers in April she going to regress anyway.

This is so familiar! My 1st DD started using the potty all the time sucessfully for pee before her 2nd birthday which was great as #2 was due one month after her bday. But she NEVER used it for poo. Finally I just let it go, meaning I didn't put diapers on her to poo in. She went a week without pooing! Then complained of stomach ache. I brought her to the doc and in the office while I was undressing her a HUGE (my god the size!) poo started to come out but got stuck! I totally paniked as it looked so painful! I screamed for the doc and she rubbed her tummy and massaged around and finally she gave birth to the poo. After that she always used the potty. The doc said it is very common that they are scared/hesitant to go poo, and very typical the hold it and get constipated....So I guess for you it's just a matter of time. Oh when #2 was born my 1st never regressed in potty-training. She did want the bottle though again when I stopped breast feeding #1, that was at 3 years! Good luck!

I did the infant potty training so my dd used the potty for most pees and all poos from before a year old. I ran out of pullups when she was 16 months and just never bought anymore a few accidents a few times for a few days but it didn't even take a week. Now once a week or so she'll have an accident just because she'll forget or be busy and go "uh oh." Shes now 20 months and my son is 4 months. I'm waiting until my ds can sit unassisted and then try infant potty training, I've been introducing it slowly and he's sat on it a few times and has peed once. My dd was 15 months when he was born and didn't regress except while I was in the hospital, but no one had taken her potty or understood when she had to go. When I got home a few days later I took her potty right away and we were back on track. As for being scared maybe just have her in the bathroom when you go every time. Then after shes used to seeing what its for, have her sit on her potty while you go every time (maybe in her clothes still.) Then start without her clothes after shes used to that maybe start asking her to go. Maybe try introducing it again in baby steps. Good luck.
