My ds is 18 months old and last night out of nowhere he started screaming bloody murder when we put him into his crib for the night. I have never heard a scream like that come from him. It lasted a few mins and he went back to sleep. Then at about 2:30am he started again. I couldn't take it anymore 30 mins later and the noise was starting to wake my 3 month old up. I went into the room and he was standing in his crib, asking me for "nana" (food). He barely ate anything for dinner so I felt bad and offered him a banana and we went and cuddled in the living room. Half hr later he was starting to think it was playtime (he only took about 3 bites from the banana by the way) so I put him back into his crib. The screaming/crying continued on and off until this morning when I took him out at 7am. Well, needless to say he was in a grumpy mood. By 9:30am I took him into my bed to try and get him to nap (little brother was in the their room napping so I didn't want to disturb him). He passed out almost right away. By 10am little brother was waking up to be fed so I tried to sneak out of the bed. He woke up...so I put him into his crib to finish off his nap. Well, it's been 1 hr and now he is finally sleeping. Where has this fear of the crib come from?? I have never had any problem like this from him before. Just this last week I thought it was strange because he was sleeping in it from 7pm-8:30am straight. I thought, gosh this kid likes his crib and sleep.

I think it sounds like it could be anything from teething to separation anxiety. My dd went through that around that age where I would put her to be d and she would scream when I walked out of the room. Also, have you tried putting him to bed a little bit later than 7pm. Maybe hes not ready to go to bed yet at that time. Just some ideas, gl

Could be the fact there is a new baby in the house now. He maybe is feeling a little left out. Or it could be those 2 year molars coming in a little early. As you know new babies take up alot of time and they need lots of attention that you use to be able to give all to him. This is probably causing a little seperation anxiety. I have found when my kids had a rough night it was because they were sick or something was bohering them.

Thanks ladies. It could be teething but I don't see any white bumps below the gum line. Could he be afraid of the dark? I thought that only happened when they were older. Tonight he screamed bloody murder again when put into his crib for the night but after my dh put is lamp on he went to sleep without a peep. Could he be scared of the shadows in his room or something. He has never had a night light in his room before. Maybe I should get one for him.

It could be he is scared of the dark. Both of my boys are very scared of the dark and have been since about your sons age. I think they are more aware of thier surroundings at his age than they are before that age and maybe that is why it has popped up all the sudden. A night light would be a good thing to try.
