Tomorrow is our big day to take my dd in for her ultrasound. She has had 3 UTIs in a short period of time, so they want her tested. Anyone have any advice on how to keep her calm: i am really afraid that she is going to cry, scream, and plead the entire time and it's going to break my heart!

Does she like to read? You could read her a story or just being there with her will help. How old is she? I ask becasue if she is a little older it could help to explain the ultrasound to her before you go, but of course thatdon't work when there real little. I think just bringing some of her smaller favorite toys and books and try to pre occupy her with those things. My dd has had 2 UTI's and one kidney infection, they haven't even mentioned this being done, you have me thinking maybe I should talk more with her Dr.

My daughter is 14 months and last July she had just 1 UTI and the dr. sent us for a test called a VCUG. I will not lie, it was an awful test. I thought they were being a little proactive but they were right on. She has a grade 4 kidney reflux issue that if left untreated or unmedicated could cause kidney failure. She will require surgery when she's about 3 and for the meantime she takes an antibiotic daily. I am so grateful the dr. was so cautious and i feel like a bad mom for questioning her. I hope all turned out well for your daughter Amy and Kimberly I'd definitely dig further with your daughter's dr.

Dont know if you will come back and read this, but my daughter is 19 months and has bladder reflux and has to get an ultrasound and vbac test every 6 months. It's brutal.....they have to catherize her to monitor how her bladder and kidneys are functioning. Like the above poster she is on daily antib's. Nothing is really going to keep her calm, it's a tough thing to go through, but necessary for their health. Try a sippy with her favorite drink or ask if they have a tv and video she can watch while it's going on to distract her a little, that is what my dd's dr does.
