Tish try it now it's a bit messy at first but shell get the hang of it. Joe has pretty much forced it on us he wouldnt eat unless he did it himself. He also gave up his bottle last week only takes his sippy now. They have great almost nylon bibs that have sleeves that you can rinse in the sink hang to dry and they are ready for the next feeding as well kind of helps with the mess. Good luck she'll do great! |

anytime! i think i slowly started around 9 months, i just hated the mess at first ( that's why it took me so long to let her do it at all meals). But now i'm used to it. The sooner the better i'd think. practice makes perfect! i am just wondering when it will stop being quite so messy! |

Well, today her daddy was feeding her some of his lunch and she showed that she wanted to take the fork and do it herself, so i got her a bowl of what he was eating, and one of her forks and sat her down, well she had a blast, more food got on the floor and on her than in her mouth but she sat and tried and tried. then tonite after we got back from going out to dinner with MIL i sat her down again, this time though she was only interested in how the spoon made sounds on the bowl...she took a few bites but more food flew across the room...lol... thanks though, and WANTANOTHER- i def need on of those bibs! she messes an outfit up now...so i will be looking for those jenna, thanks i guess i shoulda started earlieR |

well i don't blame you for starting late, lol. i just kept telling myself, well the more practice she gets, the better it will get! But my mom said that she thinks babies don't feed themselves very well until they are like 2 years old, it is such a long time to wait! |

Well we kinda backed off giving her the plate or bowl and the sppon or fork and for now are putting the food on the utensil and handing it to her that way, she is doing well at that, some food falls off before she makes it to her mouth but she does manage pretty well. Last night she did great with some corn (her other food was chicken tenders and fries which are finger foods) but she was all about the corn on her fork... she wouldn't give the fork back until she made sure she ate EVERY kernel off the fork, shes so particular in that way... if we give her a bowl or plate right now she dumps it on herself... i am not sure why but she does so we backed away from that until we can teach her not to do that... but the helping her eat thing is working, and i still get to feel kinda like she needs me for something ( i baby her so much and her growing up and becoming independent kinda makes me sad) I mean she still needs help with diaper changes and getting dressed but she tries sooo hard to help with that and can get a shirt on by herself and off by herself...so the feeding thing was all i had left that i did just for her, and now she is trying that out, and my lil girl is just growing right on up... :( ahhhh if it would all just slow down a bit.... |

aw,itleast you can still put her pants on! lol. my dd can sometimes take her own shirt off to,but only when i don't want her taking it off.she sounds really smart if she even pulls her shirt over her head herself. i know what you're saying tish, wow it seems like just yesterday i saw you posting on the december babies board saying when is this thing gonna get outta there, lol. i think the flipping the bowl over may just be her playing with her food,dd did that a lot,she still does! But more so when shes mad at me or wants to tell me shes finished so i'll take her out n she can get moving to get into everything again. Can she talk much yet?? |
