Will He Ever Eat "real Food???!"

Try a melted cheese sandwich (looks like toast)and eggs are good if he's not allergic. Applesauce (they make mixed kinds with other fruits too). Maybe meatloaf in little chunks.Just keep putting stuff in front of him, I promise he won't have Gerber in his lunchbox in kindergarten. My son is 2.2 and while he eats any meat, bread and french fries all day long, he will only eat broccoli in "normal" form. Otherwise, babyfood green beans (he loves it like it's pudding, eww),bananas, etc. The ped says that some kids won't even do that so I should be happy and fight the veggie battle later when I can "tell" him to eat "just 2 bites". I swear, feeding toddlers should be an olympic event because it feels like a marathon sometimes. If your child has no allergies, you are lucky in that dept. My son can't eat wheat, soy or eggs and he won't eat cheese and doesn't like juice, except Gerbers Splashers,LOL.Good luck |

My boy also refused to eat big people food for quite some time. I wasn't comfortable stopping the baby food cold turkey just because he was over 2. At least this way I knew that he was eating nutritiously. I got a lot of unsolicited advice about how he was too big to be eating baby food. But now I am proud to say that my 3 year old's favorite foods are peas and broccoli. He chose to stop eating baby food at 2.5 and I believe that keeping up on the fruits and veggies - even in baby food form - helped to develop his tastes. The big trick that worked wonders for us was dip, any dip. For veggies perhaps ranch. For meats, ketchup has been a lifesaver. For fruits, we've used cream, pudding, and cinnamon sprinkles. The key there is to use the word sprinkles so it seams like fun. Don't worry about it though. All kids learn and grow at their own pace. Unfortunately for us, that seems to happen way too fast. |

i have another one over here!!! We are all not alone are we!!!! My ds is about to turn 18 months and i tell you when he was 12-14 months he ate everything we gave him pretty much. he was eating chili, hard shell tacos, lazagna, you name it. Then at 14 months he decided to start getting picky and i know it had to do with him getting 3 molars at once. It just never improved after that it has gotten way worse! He now is so picky, he will pretty much eat any fruit except cantelope, no veggies at all anymore! maybe once in a while a chicken finger or fish stick. no fries unless it's mcdonalds, not even mashed potatoes anymore! He has never touched cheese in any form, freaks if i bring it near him, no jam, allergic to eggs adn he has a sensitivity to tomato based products. He also won't touch pasta unless it's a cheese cannaloni ( sp?). So i feel like he is living off soup ( only liptons ckn noodle, or connsume with rice) won't eat rice on it's own either. He also is living off cereal, yougart or toast. He will eat homemade muffins/loafs and that pretty much it! He won't even try things, he looks at it and determines that he won't like it! I try so hard to get him to atleast try it and that will make me very happy but when you can't even scoop it up on his fork with out him freaking is beyond me! He also won't eat any gerber food either anymore. so i guess i will have to put vitamins in his juice now! |

Lin7604! I make the muffins too, pumpkin, zucchini, carrot, banana, just to get some fruit in him. And another weird similarity is how my son used to eat grains--between 10-18 months, he would eat brown rice, wild rice, quinoa, mac and cheese and all types of things, but they were mixed with babyfood veggies and small chunks of meat. As soon as I figured it was time to give him bigger chunks of food and not just make "goulash" out of it all, he started to pick out what he liked (meat!) and leave the other stuff. And my son has a cheese phobia too! I've tried it all, cheese sticks (I like peeling and eating them but my ds looks at me like I'm evil and leans away in his booster seat),chunks, shredded, I think the texture icks him out? My little carnivore just tried liver last night for the first time and wolfed it down, though. Lucky he still likes babyfood prunes too,LOL. Oh and Nature Plus Animal Parade makes a yummy (sweet) liquid vitamin (with good stuff in it besides just the vitamins) that any kid would love and it's good for us tired mommies too. I get it in the Vitamin Shoppe. |

ya i am trying to sneek in other foods where i can but it is hard as most that he will eat you can't do that to! eg) yougart! BUT i was making banana muffins/loafs andhe loved it and then i though i will try carrot adn he loves those, so this week end i will try zuccini with choc chips in it adn see if he likes them too? I tried with lasagna to shred carrots, zuccini but he refused to eat it but he will eat it with spinach, so i will just keep doing that then. I just don't get how they will look at somethign and determine they don't like it? especially when it was something a month ago i could feed him enough of??? at least the mini go's are soft cheese, many think they are actually yougart but they are actually soft cheese. so i trick him that way! |

Thanks ladies! I have not tried baking different things in muffins...I will definitley give that a shot! Like many of you said, there are somethings that he used to eat, such as cut up fruit, when he was 11-12 months old or so, but now he will have nothing to do with them...he gags! I can get him to eat veggies when they are on a pizza, maybe I'll try to put small chunks of fruit in his cereal or yogurt?! |
