I'm sure this is a common problem with most toddlers, but my 2 1/2 yr old ds will just not eat veggies & it drives me nuts. Otherwise he is ahealthy eater & will eat pretty much everything, & just loves fruit - like every kind of fruit there is out there he will eat. But the only veggie he will eat on his own is raw carrots. I have tried cukes, brocolir, corn, beans, you name it - he takes one bite & spits it out. Even though he see's me & dh eat veggies all the time. So sometimes I can sneak in some shredded zuccini in his scrambled eggs & he does not notice they are there, & he'll eat spegggetti sause with noodles (i finelt chop peppers & celery in, & he eats it not knwing it's there), & I also give him a fruit/veggie juice combo from SunRype, but otherwise these are the only veggies he gets. Now, I'm worried he doesn't get enough ... do you think this OK as he does eat allot of fruit? And does anyone have any idea's as to how I can sneak more veggies into his regular foods? Thanks!

"The Sneaky Chef" by Missy Chase Lapine or the other one out there by "Senfeld's" wife. On amazon. They have recipes for hiding food that are fantastic. My 2year old son loves meatloaf so in each one I make there is a cup of broccoli, a cup of spinach and a cup of peas. She has recipes for purees of fruit and veggies that hide in stuff and they work. Pureed cauliflower and navy beans in your mac and cheese, you get the picture.

I have the same problem, and my son is not easily fooled by chopping up veggies either. We give him the fruit/veggie juice too, it's the only kind of juice we give him, and he loves vegetable soup. We try to give him soup for lunch a couple of times a week, and really I don't think it's the end of the world as long as he has vitamins too. My son had reflux and barely ate at all for 6 months, so as long as they're eating a decent variety and a decent amount I think it's OK.

ErinP, do you make your own veggie soup or buy a certain brand? I actually have not tried veggie soup with him ... I just figured it made out of everything he hates so why bother, but it might be worth a try. I do think I;m going to pick up that "sneaky chef book" & give it a try too.

I just get Campbell's vegetable soup, or he especially loves minestrone. He even gets excited about every bite ("mmm, a carrot" or "mmm, potatoes"), whereas he wouldn't touch them if I just cooked them and put them on his plate. He won't eat any kind of beans, but I can live with that. He also likes chili. I just make my own, but I have to mash the kidney beans so that he'll eat it, and chop any veggies very finely or he'll pick them out.

you might also want to try some dip with those raw veggies.. and dont give up. offer veggies often, but dont make a big deal out of it if he spits them out. the more chances he has to get used to them the more likely he will like some eventually.

thanks for the suggestion and for making this post!!!! my 17 month old used to love mashed potatoes, corn, carrots and peas! BUT a few months ago refused them and won't touch them at all....... i still make them for him 2 times a week but he just pokes them, won't even put them near his mouth. i even try dip and honey on the cooked carrots, butter, etc but nothing! I started to get frustrated as he already is a very picky eater adn now he will eat even less. SO i keep trying every week but i never though of trying ministroni soup... i will try that! I do also give him that juice half veggie/fruit a few times a week. I just don't know why he won't eat them anymore??? He does love soup though so i will try many varieties and then if a no go then i'll see if i can cook up some carrots and cut them in small bit and put them into his chicken noodle soup and see if he will eat them??? i did make carrt muffins and he's eating them like crazy! so next time i will do zuccihini
( sp?) and stick spinich into his lasagna and see what happens.
