I think as soon as you can is best. I moved my dd when she was 1 year old because I was pregnant with my ds and due in 7 mths. I moved ds to a toddler bed when he was 13 mths old and I was pregnant with our 2nd dd. I wanted to make sure they had time to adjust to the new sleeping arrangement well before I had to deal with a new baby, and I also didn't want them to feel like they were being kicked out of their "bed" by the new baby. It gave them time to forget about the crib. Both of my kids took to the toddler bed like it was their crib and had no issues going to bed once moved. I never had any trouble with either of them getting out of bed to play in the middle of the night either. Congratulations on the upcoming addition to your family! Our 3rd was born just 12 days ago.
