My daughter is 20 months old. She still took two naps a day until I enrolled her in daycare for two days a week. She has been going now for almost a month and now she will not nap at all. She is picked up at 1:00 and is very tired on the way home. When we get home, however, she will not nap at all; and when she does, it may be 30 minutes at the most. The days she is not in daycare, she won't nap either. Any suggestions on getting her back to at least one afternoon nap?

My daughter will be two on february 9th, and some days she decides she doesn't want to nap, so instead she has 'quiet time'. I put her in her crib and give her a couple of books and some stuffed animals. She usually stays for about 2-3 hours and quietly plays by herself. When she gets bored and decides she wants out, she calls for me and I go get her. I have to have some time during the day to my self, and this is the solution that works for the both of us. Sometimes she falls asleep during 'quiet time', and sometimes she doesn't. I always put her down in cozy clothes and act as if she will nap, then if after 10 minutes or so, if she isn't quiet, or sleeping, I give her the books and toys. I am almost 15 weeks pregnant and need a nap myself, so this time is precious and I am not going to give it up that easily. If she is happy in her room I leave her there. Oh, and if we are switching from nap time to quiet time, I always make sure to tell her. I know she understands.

I totally agree with "quiet" time. I have a 2 1/2 year old who sometimes naps and sometimes just lays in his bed and looks at books. I also have a 4 1/2 year old who takes a 45 minute quiet time at the same time as my 2 1/2 year old. He is allowed to read books, draw or play quietly in his room. The reason I came to this is because my oldest, who is 6 1/2 stopped taking naps at 11 months! I learned my lesson with her and I know the advantage to having a quiet time every day - it lets them rejuvinate as well as me.

I have a 16 month old and some days he takes 2 naps, others just 1, and others none at all. But I always put him in his crib for at least an hour or so even if he doesn't sleep. Down time for him and me ;)

i just wish i could get my dd to go to sleep in her own bed again. She has the flu and we were gone overnight and since then we have not been able to get her to sleep in her own bed. She used to be so good we would just say night nigh time and she would go to her bed now if we get her in her bed asleep she will sleep for an hour and thats it. She is still running a low fever and every once in a while you can tell she feels like crap so we have been puting her in bed with us so we all can sleep. I can't wait until she goes back to how she used to be, if that will happen.. Has anyone else done this iwth their lo and was able to get them back in their own bed? I need some sleep..
