From what I have read, there is a less chance of conceiving at all with clomid if it isn't needed and also it can give you such problems that you may end up with a fertility problem. I also know a couple of women on another board who lost an ovary because one had one burst and the other had a huge cyst and destroyed her ovary. Both were actually getting their u/s from their doctors and were monitored closely. Shows you this drug isn't as "harmless" as some want you to believe. If it were, it would be over the counter accessible which even that can be dangerous if you just start taking your own dosage and not follow the directions on the box.

Hello Everyone, It is so wonderful to read all the posts that everyone has posted on this Forum. My DH and I are researching the twins thing at the moment and I am so glad to have come across this Forum. I have a few things that are said to increase the chances of conceiving twins. These are Folate (Folic Acid) Tablets, Calcium tablets as well as an increased diet in Dairy products and also eating Yams (or Sweet Potatoes). I also have a friends who had Chinese Herbal Medicine given to her to increase her chances and she was successful (boy & girl). I was really hoping of finding another alternative rather than using clomid because as far as I am aware I am O normally. I am wondering how Kim is going has anyone hear anything from her? She should have had her twins by now (fingers crossed all are well). Congratulations to all who are currently pregnant! Baby dust to all! :-)

hi I am 36 I had tubal reversal surgery at 30 and immediately got pregnant but had an undiagnosed ectopic and lost one tube and almost my life. I went on to concieve a darling little girl a year and a half later then a boy 14 mo later. I want to conceive one last time as I am getting up there in age but don't want to wait a year and a half or longer to do it I also like the idea of twins. I only have one 4cm tube and it apparently has a hard time catching eggs (but god love the little thing for working at all,, a normal tube is 12cm long!)) I purchased clomid off the internet from freedom pharmacy and it looks very leg. and safe It took 9 days to get here. I am waiting for my period and then think I will go for days 3-7 but am torn over what dosage to take I do ovulate but irregularly because I still nurse my son. ( have read it is safe to take while nursing)

Clomid causes hyperstimulation sometimes which can be VERY life threatening. Since you have already been thru a horrible experience and already lost 1 tube, I would caution you to NOT take the unprescribed clomid because you are playing with fire. THANK THE HIGHER POWERS THAT BE that you survived the ectopic, and CAN HAVE BABIES ON YOUR OWN!!!! A LUXURY THAT SOME OF US ONLY HAVE DREAMED OF.

I spent over 7000.00 to a have surgery so God willing I could conceive again with my husband (was sterilized young because of bad marriage) also spent money on out pt. surgery to shoot die thru my tube and on emergency surgery to save my life and remaining tube. Yes I conceived twice but it took us way over a year both times. The months of hoping and of checking can be heart wrenching I don't want to do that again and I am older my chances of conceiving drop I am educated and the meds. I ordered are the real deal and sealed straight from the factory also I have a good friend who had to take clomid with all 3 of her preg. due to irregular ovulation and her doc. started her out on 100mg because he said for her 50 wouldn't work he never monitored her with u/s etc. Just on what she was taking how much and how long. He said come see me when your pregnant! Hyperstimulation is rare with Clomid as are multiple pregnancies only 5-10% (and has a lot to do with how much you take) you really shouldn't freak everyone out Do you regret having your triplets? I personally don't want triplets because my goal is for a healthy baby(ies) carried to term and triplets are very high risk but I do deserve to have more children if I can I have earned it! The reason I am not going thru my doc. is for insurance reasons and other personal reasons I know I will be fine thanks for your concern.

TripletMom - September 2nd, 2006 7:27 PM

Sweetie, I concieved my triplets on 50 mg of clomid (and nothing else) so it is a VERY REAL possibility. ONE YEAR of trying to concieve is not a long time. Try 2+3+ years or more and then I could understand. People like you don't really understand the true heartache of TTC and the numerous losses, etc. Again, count your lucky stars and dont tempt fate. Oh, and I LOVE my triplets, but I did not set out to purposely have them. I was one of the lucky ones to carry them pretty well and them be born healthy, but that is not always the case. Oh and also, a twin pregnancy is also high risk - I have a personal friend who delivered her twins at 24 weeks. So just because it is "only twins", doesn't mean it would be w/out potential complications. Look at your 2 kids and be thankful for what you have, seek medical help for true conception issues.

freebird - September 3rd, 2006 9:31 AM

I was also on only 50mg of clomid and conceived twins. I'm currently unable to leave the house and can barely walk due to the weight. I'm just trying to keep them in another 2 weeks so they won't be too early. I'm scared to death that they'll be premature. I've also got gestational diabetes due to the fact that there's 2 placentas (I was not overweight before becoming pregnant). I only gained 26 lbs this pregnancy and have been losing weight the past month due to the strict diet that I must follow. And according to my doctor I've had a relatively EASY twin pregnancy, there are women with alot more problems than I've had.
Tripletmom, there's no talking to these people. They all apparently graduated at the top of their classes at Johns Hopkins school of Medicine and are able to treat themselves rather than go to a doctor. What I find interesting is that so many cite 'insurance reasons'. What happens then if (god forbid) they have a multiple pregnancy and premature babies? Those NICU bills add up really quickly, and there's no treating that at home.

First of all don't call me "sweetie" when you are obviously patronizing me. Okay then I'll do it your way since we own our own buisness and already pay almost 700.00 in insurance a month plus copays and deductibles and even though our policy doesn't cover med. visits for fertility reasons I'll just spend more money to have 3 children with my husband like you I'm only saying I am open to twins because I realize that is a possible side effect of the med. and I like most think twins would be nice but my real reason for thinking 100mg would be the better route is because the more eggs I produce the more likely my little (4cm) tube will suck some up Wait didn't I say this already? I don't know but you and the girl after you are obviously insulting my intelligence and what do you care? Didn't you have your babies on Clomid already? Why are you even on this page what is it your mission to keep other women from taking Clomid when it worked for you?? One more thing years and years of infertility are worse than months and months but both are very upsetting I'm sure you were dissappointed the month after month the first year + trying Man having triplets must have really been hard on you not just physically but emotionally cause you seem like a real cold witch

rom - September 3rd, 2006 11:11 AM

and Freebird , you knew the risks of taking Clomid you knew you could conceive twins you still took it doesn't that make you stupid too if you now are worried about your twins? for people who have an ovulation problem for people who are irregular like me for all people their is a chance for twins/multiples You sound like now that you are suffering you regret it and we are all stupid for possibly following in your foot steps remember you also made a choice to take Clomid your doc. didn't stop you from having multiples by watching you just like the triplet mom

rom - September 3rd, 2006 11:19 AM

one more thing, aside from the insults and for the record your input has caused me to decide to start with only 50mg

rom - September 3rd, 2006 12:47 PM

Anyone who wants to chat with me, I posted a new question under "over35 and pregnant" titled " 36 had reversal surgery want to use clomid" you certainly don't have to be over 35 and any advice welcome but criticism not prefered

freebird - September 3rd, 2006 12:51 PM

If you're going to take it, then you're going to take it but I'm glad you're only starting with 50mg. I took clomid under my doc's supervision because my husband and I were unable to conceive at all after 3 years. We used it in combination with IUI. I also underwent multiple tests before he would allow me to start taking the drug because with certain conditions the clomid can make it harder to conceive. Yes, I knew the risks but my choice was the fertility treatments or no children at all. After these two are born I will not be having any more because we are not able to. The multiples moms on this board are not out to stop other women from taking clomid, because it can work for some people depending on what your issues are. What we are out to do is try to keep people from taking it irresponsibly and unnecessarily.
And to be quite honest, I do question the intelligence of anyone who doesn't see what's wrong with taking fertility drugs unprescribed. I'm sorry if you find that insulting, but this is a board for women who are pregnant with multiples. Not a TTC board, so maybe you should question what you're doing here rather than us.

samehere - September 3rd, 2006 3:17 PM

You have no place to say that us moms of multiples shouldn't post on any thread that is in the twins and multiple board. This thread itself is titled TWINS/MULTIPLES. I suggest you take your questions to a board that is more up your area. I know that BabyCenter has many boards for women with troubles conceiving, trying to get pregnant after a tubal reversal, being over 30...etc. Good luck to you.

TripletMom - September 3rd, 2006 4:04 PM

I dont patronize, I just lay it out like it is. I have not 1 regret in my life, thanks. I was on clomid for a valid condition under the supervision and care of a dr. I am younger than you so I dont have that "factor" to worry about (yet). Be careful about personally attacking people on these threads, they will kick you off.

TripletMom - September 3rd, 2006 6:04 PM

If anyone doesn't belong on this thread, it is you, rom. You dont have multiples and are not pregnant with multiples. Having triplets has made me the happiest person - they & my older child are my reason for living. I had an uneventful pregnancy and delivery. Since I have experience w/a multiple pregnancy, I can speak knowledgeably about it. People who go out and try to conceive multiples are ignorant and selfish.

Med Student - September 3rd, 2006 7:27 PM

Hello TripletMom, long time no see! Sounds like things are going well with you. I haven't been on here in quite some time as I've been busy but it's nice to see that you are still doing such a fine job at your public service announcements. It's also rather unfortunate that your truly valid warnings are still falling on deaf ears even after all this time. Just to clear the air for those choosing not to read TripletMom's posts in their entirety or missing the point entirely, she has never said that Clomid is evil or that no woman should ever take it even if there are fertility problems occuring. She said that taking Clomid (or any perscription med) without an Rx or while forgoing medical supervision isn't a wise course of action for anyone. I never heard her patronize anyone and the fact that she is choosing to use her experience for your benefit should cause you to react with introspection and gratitude instead of sarcasm and acidity. She is also correct. Taking Clomid without an Rx is risky business and it becomes even riskier without professional medical supervision. Even if you still chose to go with the unprescribed stuff, at least tell your physician what you are up to and go in for regular visits while you are on it. Either way, it is usually less than two hundred dollars for an exam (not counting lab fees) and if you indeed do not ovulate regularly you should have no trouble getting a perscription for the safer Clomid available in this country. Either way, it isn't smart to ignore or deny the potential danger in what you are doing. Best of luck to you.
