Hi, I'm healthy 24 yr old and have been trying to get pregnant for over a year. I'm beginning to wonder how much longer I should try before getting professional help. Are there a series of costly and extensive tests and examinations that needs to be performed prior to prescription of fertility drug??

I guess it's suggested that after a year of trying, you should seek help. I went through some blood work and something called a hysterosalpingogram (I have no idea of that is spelled right). It is where they put dye through your cervix and look to make sure your falopian tubes are not blocked. My husband's sperm was also checked to make sure there was nothing wrong in that department. After that, I was placed on Clomid (I have PCOS, so I don't ovulate on my own). Good luck!

Have you conceived on clomid yet? If so, that's great! If you've just begun, then good luck!! I am going to give it a just a wink more time...I'm suspicious that a lot of it has to do with how incredibly stressed out I am at work and as a person. :)

Gracie - Yes, I concieved 3 times with clomid. The first time, I had a healthy girl (she's now 2 1/2). The second time ended in a miscarriage and I'm now almost 30 weeks pregnant with twins. Good luck!

Hi Gracie, I'm 24 as well. Melissa pretty much cover it. I thought I might mention that the dye being shot into your cervix through a catheter isn't the most pleasant experiece but well worth it. They sayif you have tried for 1 year then you should go to your doctor. I did and now I am expecting twins! good luck!

To LaRae and Melissa - So happy for you girls!! Both expecting twins and doing well! Everything sounds a little painful, esp for someone like me w/ so little pain tolerance, but like LaRae says, it's well worth it!!
LaRae - what's the gender of your twins??

I am still in my first trimester, so I won't find out for another month or so what the genders are. But I am so excited!
