Hi! I am four weeks two days pregnant with my second baby. Although, I have had three miscarriages. Last Sunday, prior to being four weeks, I hadn't even missed my period, and my HCG level was 455 and progesterone was 32. If it doubled at 48 hours, then it was 910 at exactly four weeks. or 28 days past my last period. I realize this is high. My docotor mentioned the possibilty of more than one baby. I have a Dr. app. on May 20th. I am dying to know how much of a chance there is this could be a twin pregnancy. My first cousin on my mother's side does have fraternal twins. So, I am wondering how high your HCG level was early in your pregnancy? Thanks! Elizabeth

Hello! My BETA at 10dp5dt was 580. My RE is pretty certain we've got twins, although I find out for sure on the 21st. Your number is up there as well, I'd think you have a pretty good chance of carrying more then one. Let us know! My ultrasound isn't till the 21st at exactly 6 weeks pregnant.

mama-beans: i don't think she had ivf, though. and you said that plays a role in levels. **epigg* grats on your pregnancy and good luck if you're hoping for twins!!

No, I did not have IVF, but would if that is what I had to do to have a baby. So, I am not sure what 10dp5dt means. Exuse my ignorance:) Thanks for responding. I have done nothing but wonder and search the internet! I can't wait for my sono on the 20th. I had never even thought about the possibility of twins until my doctor mentioned the high HCG. My husbands sister has twins. One of them has severe cerebral palsy. So, as youcan imagine, that is what I thought of as soo as twins were mentioned. I love my nephews dearly. But, I see the daily struggles my sister-in-law experiences taking care of a disabled child. I just want a helathy pregnancy. I don't think I can handle another miscarriage! I'll be happy with one healthy baby, or happy with two healthy babies.

no worries i have no idea either lol.

there are other reasons for your high hcg don't get your hopes up yet sometimes it's just one baby more than likely and others maybe a blighted ovum good luck

epigg; 10dp5dt is 10 days past a 5 day transfer, or 15 days "post ovulation". According to my RE, at 15 days post ovulation, they begin to suspect multiples with any count over 400, as the average at that point for a singleton is just over 100. While BETA numbers can certainly vary by the fetus/pregnancy( I knew a gal that had an HCG of 22 at 10dp5dt, and that baby is 2 months old now), your numbers are indeed high! High enough to fit into that "quite possibly twins" category, even as that isn't a guarantee. If not IVF, did you do IUI? You know exactly which day you ovulated? Because just a day or two off will make a big difference in your BETA counts. Either way, Congrats on your pregnancy! Be sure to come back and update us when you find out if you've got one or two little ones cooking!

ah! i thought dpt was days past trigger. close i suppose. anyway, she might be a clomid preggy cuz some of us get trigger shots so we get to know when we ovulate.

twinmom2008 - May 19th, 2008 7:29 AM

If I remember correctly, on cd28 my hCG was 325 and progesterone 55. Then 41hrs later, my hCG was 740. I ovulated late, and my ultrasound shows me to be 3-4days off, so those values "could have been" that high earlier on. Good Luck!

epigg - May 19th, 2008 10:26 AM

I did not take clomid. It is a natural pregnancy. My sono. is tomorrow! I just want to see at least one healthy baby! If God gives me two, then of course my husband and I will handle it. Thanks for all your info.! It looks like in comaprison to some of your levels, mine is indeed high! I'll keep you posted. This time three years ago, I went in for a sono at over 8 weeks, and had lost the baby with no signs at all. So, I will be relieved when tomorrow is over. Once you have gone through that, being pregnant is never the same, as I am sure some of you know about first hand. I'll post tomorrow as soon as I can!

I know exactly what you mean epigg. We lost our last one at 10w4d and didn't find out till our ultrasound. Our 6 and 8 week ultrasounds were perfect. Then the 10week one.. no heartbeat. This pregnancy has definately been harder because of that, all other losses were much earlier on. I just keep thinking "please, no dead babies, let there be a heartbeat" and get no further. My "twins" query is just a diversion.. like there could actually be TWO. LIVE. BABIES or some such nonsense! LOL! Teddy- IVF plays a role in HCG counts because we know the exact minute of conception. It happens in a petri dish. So we know exactly how accurate our counts are, compared to all other forms of conception where you have a full 24 hour day in which to guess conception occurred. That can make a big difference in numbers, which is why the "normal" numbers can vary so much.

epigg: maaan i wish i could have known when i ovulated =P i didn't ovulate at all, though, so i guess that makes it hard lol. **mama-beans** true, i suppose. i have to say, though, with a trigger shot, i pretty much knew which day i conceived because i knew when i ovulated and knew how long the egg lasts and all that hairy stuff. but yeah yours is definitely more exact that the way mine happened.

I had a sono yesterday. We only saw one sack. At first, we couldn't see anything inside the sack. But, he continued to look, and finally zoomed in and was able to see the yolk sack. It did measure five weeks, which is right on. I was exactly five weeks yesterday accordning to my last period. I go in next Thursday for another sono. I'll feel better when we can finally see a heartbeat!

Teddyfinch - May 21st, 2008 8:02 PM

once you're about 6 weeks, they should be able to find the flicker in the ultrasound, but sometimes it takes 8 weeks, so don't lose hope!

epigg - May 30th, 2008 1:57 PM

This will be my last post here. We do have one healthy baby. We were able to see the heartbeat yesterday at 6w3d. Now, we just have to make it past the first trimester! Congrats to you all. I'll be with the first trimester mommies!
