if you were taking meds and conceived twins or more? I just had one nice sized follicle and had my 2nd IUI this morning. This is however my first cycle on clomid, so I was just a little curious about meds, follicles and multiples.

TripletMom - July 10th, 2006 2:56 PM

First IUI I had 6 or more mature follicles - only concieved 1 baby. Second IUI I had 3 mature follicles and concieved 3.

yetanothertripletmom - July 11th, 2006 10:10 AM

I had 4 mature follicles and conceived 3.

PrincessesMom - July 11th, 2006 11:24 AM

I have had 4 pregnancies and 3 births. I have never had any trouble with fertility. I lost my 4th child about 10 months ago and when I went for an OB check up last month I told the Dr. I was really ready for a baby and had been waiting for the OK from him. He told me that if I was that motivated he would give me a pill the would increase my chances of conceiving quickly. I took 50mg of clomid days 4-8 and then began reading about all of the multiple births. I've only been on one cycle and haven't done anything else to increase my chances except bd at least every other day. I have always been extremely fertal on my own. I'm a little afraid of multiples. What do you think my chances are?

whynotme - July 11th, 2006 11:49 AM

I think that anytime you start taking fertility drugs there is an increased chance of multiples. If you are scared, then you might want to express your concerns to your OB. The percentage is only 10% for twins and like 1% for higher order multiples.

I'm I right that most women usually produce only 1 mature egg per cycle and that clomid is meant to increase that number? If so, I am down right scared when I see it posted that 4 or 6 mature eggs were released!

whynotme - July 12th, 2006 1:06 PM

Yes, on a natural cycle women only produce one follicle that will release ino the fallopian tubes. Clomid is meant to actually produce more/better eggs. I think that dr.s actually like when they see one mature follicle. I would definitely feel more positive about this IUI if I had more then 1 though. Clomid for me was meant to help me with my luteal phase defect. Fingers crossed that it's long enough this time around.

TripletMom - July 12th, 2006 6:58 PM

Yeah, clomid is not prescribed necessarily to produce more follicles, but to help with ovulation. I had PCOS and something funky going on w/my luteal phase also.

whynotme - July 13th, 2006 10:23 AM

I guess I just get a little concerned when I hear all of these women say that they had more then 1 follicle. It kind of makes me feel like it's not gonna work with just one. I haven't been diagnosed by my RE yet with a luteal phase defect, but his nurse said that it's not long enough to support implantation. So really if the egg is trying to implant then it's like a very very early miscarraige. That makes me sad to think about.

We've gone through IUI & IVF. IUI didn't work for us, although we were told we had a min of 11 follicles each of the 3 cycles. When we did IVF, we found out most of the follicles we thought we were seeing were actually reactions of my tubes, not really follicles. During IVF we had 5 follicles, out of which we had 3 mature eggs, out of which only 1 egg fertilized. Lucky for us it survived for transfer & we are now 17 weeks pg. I remember feeling so disappointed & afraid, thinking this wasn't going to work because I only had 1 egg. I figured my odds of success would be lowered due to this but we lucked out on the 1st try. Try to remember it really only takes one.

What are my chances of twins with 2 Mature follicles? I have been on 150mg of clomid days 3-9 and my recent ultrasound shows I have 2 mature follicles at the time of ovulation. What is my chances?

kndkane - October 30th, 2008 4:11 PM

blf0521: I'm in the exact same boat as you and wondering the same thing. I took clomid 3-9 and my sono on cd13 showed a follie at 18 on one side and 23 on the other. I had a + opk the next day. Just wondering if possibly both released or only the bigger?

twinsmichelle - September 16th, 2009 12:29 PM

6 mature follicles, got twins, one vanished. got smarter and did not want to risk it, so took less clomid, only had 1 decent follie, not even great, and 1 supposedly unviable according to the dr (yeah right), and ended up with fraternal twins anyhow.
