I had triplets on just 50 mg of prescribed clomid. Taking 100mg when you dont have any fertility problems is unnecessary. Besides the dangers of taking something purporting to be clomid, you are putting yourself at risk for serious medical problems!!! Your doctor was probably no help to you because I am sure he/she wouldn't help you with such silliness!

i have been taking unprescribed clomid for 2 cycles now and started with 50mg days 2-6. the earliest you take it the more eggs mature and hence increased chance of multiples however eggs might not be totally ripe and therefore it is said that you may end up with an increased risk of mc so the later you take it i.e days 5-9 for instance, the less eggs mature but would be of better quality! i took it day 2-6 again and now i am taking 100mg days 5-9. i have had no symptoms so i have been lucky. this will be my last attempt with clomid. wish you all the luck and warm wishes as well lots and lots of baby dust. ignore negative remarks. each to their own and i respect you for your decision.

Hmm, why don't you take 200mg and see what happens?
You talked to your OB and she wasn't any help? Why because she refused to give you medication you don't need? If you know so much on the subject to be taking this drug why are you asking? I thought you knew "all the risks"? Obviously not.
And duh 100mg does not increase your chances.

whoa! she asked for help not a public bashing! anna, if you still even look at this post--because I surely wouldn't, I did the same thing. I took my first round at 50mg and this is my second and I am taking 100mg. I did a lot of research as well and decided to take it days 3-7. The first and unsuccessful time was days 2-6. You do need to do a LOT of research if you are thinking about this, and definitely know what the signs of complications are so that you can immediately get help if anything goes wrong. I was an egg donor last year, so I know my body can handle much much stronger meds, so that's why I decided to take it to help with my own family. If you haven't already looked at the thread what are the chances of twins/multiples, there is a lot of women discussing this topic and NOT discussing judgemental opinions (at least in the beginning) so you may find that helpful. It amazes me that these women would be SO ignorant as to not even listen to a single bit of advice from those of us BEEN-THERE-DONE-THAT mother's of multiples. I love my triplets, of course, but I would NEVER ever play with mother nature by taking ANY medication that would increase my chances of having multiples out of my own selfishness. I agree with tripletmom - go volunteer at a children's hospital, or better yet -- adopt a handful of the MANY children that are out there awaiting a foverer adoptive family. You ladies are just plain SELFISH. Quite honestly, I'll be saying a prayer tonight that God does NOT bless you with multiples -- it takes a very unselfish, patient, & level-headed person to mother multiples -- all of which you are NOT!!!

Please don't attack me!!! I'm just going to give you some facts. I have also thought of taking clomid unprescribed. Not to have multiples but to conceive one child. Dh and I have been ttc for close to 2 years. Since I am ovulating regularly my doc will not prescribe me any meds. Anyway here are the risks. You can develop cysts that will cause extreme pain. If you take too much (since you already ovulate 100 mg is way too much) you can hyperstimulate your ovaries which will cause irreversable damage making you sterile. It causes terrible mood swings and painful ovulating. On top of that the higher the dosage does not mean the higher the chance of multipules. You have the same chance, it's just you do more potential harm to your ovaries. The chances are as follows: No matter who you are and what your reasons for clomid are your chances are as followes: 1 in 10 chance of having twins, 1 in 200 chance in having tripl. and a 1 in 1,000 chance of quads or more. So your chances for mulitiples only slightly increases. I'm not going to tell you what to do. It is your decision. I just wanted to let you know what your risks are. I would not start out with 100 mgs. That is far too risky I would start out with a lower dose of around 25, 50 at the most. If you must.

To the last response, I would agree with everything you said except I've never heard that overuse of Clomid makes you sterile. My doctor told me if you take it for too long it starts to be counterproductive and can actually work like birth control but wont harm you.

This is why we all really need to work with our doctors when ttc, internet rumors and other second hand information can be harmful and probably wont help in the quest to have a child.

One question I have Anna, where are you going to get the Clomid? I would be very careful about ordering it on the blackmarket, you could end up with bad drugs or worse.

indeed i am!!! but its early days so don't want to get too excited..took me 4 cycles..1st cycle wasa trial thouhg neveer reallt ttc on that wanted to see if i had bad reaction or symptoms....so from the second cycle i actaully bd...took 100mg days 5-9...had no symptoms whatsoever only postive ones like very strong O pain and then implantation pain yesterday!!!

Clomid can make you sterile. Your ovaries are like oranges. The more you squeeze the dryier they get. The more cycles and higher dosages og clomid the less folicles you have left, making you less and less fertile. Eventually, it can leave your ovaries useless. Ask you doc. This is what I was told.

hence, i only planned to take it for 3-4 cycles..hd i not got pregnant this time round i would have stopped and given my body rest from it. i may have used it maybe one or 2 more rounds after that or never again....but yes i didnt want to over do it..if it didn't work after ttc so keenly then i thouhg it wont work at all...

hey women, i am 21 yrs old and have been trying to conceive for 6mnth without any luck, i have been having unprotected sex for 8mnth b4 that but my doctor wont lisen til i have been trying for 18mnth..i really want a baby and am thinking about taking clomid unprescribed will someone tell me what days to take it on and the pros and cons i wanna hear both sides of the story
