who went off-topic?

I don't believe the sperm can fall out. Once it's in, it's in. You could try to lie on your back with a pillow under your butt if it makes you feel like you need to do something.

Also, I am on Clomid 50 mg. Im nervous about it though b/c I dont want to develop cysts or anything. My doctor has assured me I will be fine.

Wanting - November 10th, 2005 2:31 PM

So, all the "stuff" that is coming out isnt actually sperm? Im a little confused on all that. I really want to have a baby but it all make me so nervous after having a miscarriage at 13 weeks in May.

to wanting - November 10th, 2005 2:40 PM

my doctor suggested that after intercourse I remain laying down w/my hips elevated for like 10 minutes. So my husband would shove tons of pillows under my butt. My husband's sperm had a motility/progression issue so we needed to keep "it" all "in" as and have gravity help it LOL

Wanting - November 10th, 2005 2:41 PM

Did that help you? Were you able to conceive?

mama-beans - November 10th, 2005 2:55 PM

Actually yes, a lot of semen does come back out of your body. ( research...) It has been recommended in all of the ttc books that I own and on every web site that I have read, as well as by my doctor herself that after sex you keep your hips elevated. I didn't find pillows under bottom to be as effective for me, so I ended up ( rather awkwardly) with my feet in the air.. hands behind knees. At least stay on your back, as your vagina naturally slopes down a bit towards your cervix anyway ( if you don't have a tipped uterus). I have had one child with the aid of rx clomid.. don't know if this really helped, but keeping all the swimmers I can in the right area seemed like a pretty basic idea.

I stand corrected! You really are a wealth of knowledge. These women should feel lucky to have you on this board.

SORRY! - November 10th, 2005 3:00 PM

Meant to write: To Mama-Beans (not that I am Mama-Beans)!

Wanting - November 10th, 2005 3:09 PM

Why does it all pour out like that? My husband and I had sex once in March and it was our first time EVER and I got pregnant. It seemed like a fairy tale almost. Then, I m/c 13 weeks later and have been relentlessly trying to conceive ever since with no luck. At this point, I'll stick my legs anywhere and do a hand stand to keep the little guys on the right path. If they are anything like my husband, they probably get lost on their way to the egg and so just turn around and go home.

to wanting - November 10th, 2005 3:26 PM

It worked once, but ended in miscarriage. Good luck! You know, not ALL of it comes out at once.. it seems like it, I know, but some stays in.. and there are (or should be) millions of sperm so one is bound to go the distance!!!

mama-beans - November 10th, 2005 4:22 PM

to "to:mama-beans" Big of you to admit you were wrong! I mean, advice that isn't based on fact isn't really advice, is it? Good Luck!

To the woman who lost an ovary, what happened? Did you just have a lot of pain before it ruptured?

Plu - November 10th, 2005 9:48 PM

To OH DEAR-- I just want to add one thing to possibly help you understand why I think it is not hypocritical to take clomid if you are infertile, but still believe it is a bad idea if you are fertile. One reason why medication perscriptions are controlled by physicians is that a physician must decide whether or not the benefits of taking a drug outweighs the risks. This is true for any perscribed drug, and it is up to a medically trained individual to decide. Any drug we take poses a risk, some smaller than others, but a risk none the less. The reason why clomid is not given to people who do not need fertility medications is that the benefits do not outweigh the risks. Simply put, if you are fertile you do not need the medicinal benefit of added fertility - therefore there is no ethical reason for the risk to you or your child/children. If it was only your life you were putting at risk I would say go for it - let the stupid be punished, I believe in Darwinism. However, innocent children born with cerebral palsy or blindness should not be punished from people who think they know better. I don't mean to be mean, I just want you to understand.

nicely put!

Plu - November 11th, 2005 2:04 AM

Just to clarify to "why" on an earlier posting of mine when I said physicians take an oath to "first do no harm" I meant simply what I explained above. Before a physician does anything to medically treat a patient, they must consider if what they are about to do can cause harm to a patient before proceeding. Little in medicine is black and white and often times decisions physicians make can cause harm, but the point is they use their knowledge and experience in making that decision. The FDA made clomid a perscription drug for many reasons. The reason people wanting to conceive multiples need to get it off the internet is that no physician with an ounce of medical ethics would perscribe it for an unintended potentially dangerous use. Ok I'll shut up for a while!
