Ok I am carry twin girls. My sonogram tech says they are not identical.

However according to what they tell me that doesn't make sense, can you please help me understand.

My babies (both girls) share one planceta (they are fairly certain it is no fused)
They share a chorion sac and have their own seperate amnion sacs. there is also a thin membrane between them.

According to what i have read babies that share a chorion are identical (Yes?)
They would be considered Monochorion/diamniotic twins. Are these identical? Am I getting something wrong?

I don't really care if they are identical or fraternal but it would be nice to know.

Thanks for your help.

If there is a membrane seperating them then they are fraternal. Fraternal twins can share one placenta. I am also pregnant with twins and my dr drew out a bunch of pics to show me the differences. He said he is almost 100% certain that mine are fraternal.

Hope this helps :)

natashajo - yes, yours are identical. one placenta always identical. fraternals because they are two eggs and two sperm always have their own of everything. the membrane you mentioned that separates them is what makes them "diamniotic" rather than "monoamniotic". i had monochorionic twins in 2003 - they are at risk for twin to twin transfusion syndrome. take extra care and make sure your dr is more careful monitoring you and the babies. one of my little ones died due to ttts. good luck to you! hope everything goes perfectly!

Totally wish I could put something else here to absolutely answer your question darlin", but I can't. Here is how it is broken down. This was posted publicly on another board by a friend, and I'd like to share it here.

Here's a list of the possibilities:
2 amniotics sacs/2 placentas (2 chorions)/boy/girl then fraternal
2 amniotics sacs/2 fused placentas (2 chorions)/boy/girl then fraternal
2 amniotics sacs/2 placentas (2 chorions)/same sex can be either fraternal or identical
2 amniotics sacs/2 fused placentas (2 chorions)/same sex can be either fraternal or identical
2 amninotic sacs/1 placenta (1 chorion) always identical (and same sex)
1 amniotic sac/1 placenta (1 chorion) always identical (and same sex)
