It is possible, if you have a second uterus which isn't as uncommon as you may think. But when someone has a second uterus it usually won't work so unless you have a second uterus I don't think you can become pregnant while being already pregnant. There is also a natural plog formed at the entrance of the cervix making a barrier against sperm.

I fould some interesting info on twin types on a web site (of course I don't remember which one) but it listed the different types and there were some surprises. First, there can be boy/girl "identical" twins. It has something to due with very rare cases where the egg splits before fertilization. The two "eggs" then become fertilized with 2 different sperm and so the twins can be b/g (as sperm determines this) and each has 1/2 the identical DNA. The other type relates to this post; the web site mentioned twins that are conceived weeks or even months apart. There were names for both these types. The web stie sounded reliable but who can really know. I don't remember the name but it came up during a Google search. I'll look for it again and get back.

i just wasted time reading this meaningless info. i came here to get some encouragement. i have had multiple miscarriages and just found out i have a septate uterus. while all of you are going around in circles arguing there are people who truely need some caring advice and support. i hope you can all see that this site is supposed to be possitive, not negative.

I don't know if anyone really cares about this or not but I found the site and still find it difficult to believe but the site is www.nomotc.org/library/twinning_facts.html
I'll cut and paste what it says.
Polar body twinning is very unusual and very rare. The process is quite complicated. The polar body appears when the egg has been developing, even before fertilization. It is a small cell that does not function and will usually degenerate and die. It is thought that in some cases, when the egg is old, the splitting off of the polar body takes place in an abnormal way. It then becomes larger, receives more nourishment, and does not die as it usually does. Instead, it acts as a second egg. The polar body and the egg share identical genes from the mother, but they may then be fertilized by two separate sperm from the father. This will result in twins who share half their genes in common (from the mother) and the other half different (from the two sperm). They share some features of identical twins and some features of fraternal twins and thus are so-called half-identical twins.
Superfetation occurs when a women ovulates more than one egg but the eggs are released at different times, sometimes up to 24 days apart, and they are fertilized when they are released. The resulting twin pregnancy has different conception dates, so the babies may be quite different in size. Days or weeks may separate the births. It is quite an unusual event. In some cases, the births of twins may be weeks or months apart due to deliberate medical intervention. This is called interval birth.
I was wrong about the difference in age being months, looks like weeks at most.

Just so everyone knows. It is also possible to have twins with 2 different dads. I know a lady who unfortunately was having an affair and got pg by both her dh and the other man because she ovulated 2 eggs that month.

Michelle- Thanks for the info. and for being brave and posting it. I found that site a while back but didn't want to get involved putting it on this post. As it is, you better watch your back, someone may attack you for being informed!! LOL This posting is amazing don't you think? Especially with so many resources out there for information.

SOME women have two uterus's, and CAN in fact carry two differant babies at differant times...HOWEVER....the reality of this is that IT IS VERY RARE, so the possiblity for your gf to be pregnant with your baby and another mans baby is highly unlikely unless this condition has been confirmed by her doctor. good luck to you in this situation, and FIND A NEW GIRLFRIEND

JENNIFER - November 9th, 2005 8:49 PM

no because you al ready have one baby growning in side of you and every thing is close so the sperm can not get to each other to produce a nother baby and any waYS IF THAT WERE TO HAPPEN THERE WOULD ONLY BE ONE BABY THAT LIVES AND THE OTHER ON WOULD DIE.

My sister got pregnant via AI the only thing was is they reintroduced two eggs and three implanted the age different was about 1 week not much to make any difference the doctor thought it was abosolutly funny he said it was the first time it happened to him.
He also said it was very rare and the only reason it happened is because the other two inplanted before the uterine wall thinkened (making it impossible for others to implant) One died and was reabsorbed (vanishing twin...I guess really triplet) and the other two were born health and happy. I asked him about this question and he wouldn't comment on women with two uterus because he hasn't dealt with any who have had two working ones (he said all the ones he's seen has only have one working one) but he said if you have one working uterus it is possible only if they implant days apart and usually only when AI is involved. He said the window after the eggs are fertilized and inplanted is about 1-2 weeks because the uterus hasn't fully ripened yet but once the uterus has ripened and the mucus plug is "full" and in place it's impossible (he said there maybe a chance if someone injected a fertal egg dirrectly into the wall....well laughing).
He also said the chance of it happening are 1 in a 100 million *LOL*
he also stated that women have a protective device in place to prevent forein objects from getting into the uterine wall after your pregnant it ripens which means it's thick and can't be penitrated, before your pregnant it's like jello and afterwards it's like playdoh. so if you want to see the difference get a bowl of jello and a ball of playdoh and poke them both with a pin and you'll see the difference (I tried just to see what he was meaning)

What do you mean by reintroduced 2 eggs? AI procedure involves catheter inserting sperm into uterus.

ksg1013 - November 11th, 2005 11:04 AM

I know a lady who was sent home from the hospital after having one baby, and she was pregnant with another baby... She had that baby three months later- healthy and all
