now to my questions....

i just got my pills also from india, also not in box but tighly packed cellophene packet and ordered it from cutpills.com
now mine never came with instructions and i have no idea when to start them or how to use them. i have been on birth control pills (b/c) last month and started my periods on the 3rd of sep which is the time in betwen packs..i then had to start my new b/c pack on the 5th, 2 days ago and have tonight decided to stop...so only took 2 b/c. now i wanted to know how soon after b/c should could one start clomid???i dont want o waste these pills cost me a whopping $90 i have 30 of them but want to do everything right. i.e. increase my chances of having twins. i ovulate naturally it took me 3 months last time i came of b/c which i think is pretty normal...
my clomid pills are 50mg and i assume i start with that...how and when should i start taking it or should i wait for a normal cycle first???i am on my 5th day tommorrow of my cylce off b/c...does that count and satrt taking my first clomid then???or do i wait until i have a full normal cycle???
i.e start next month???i am so confused...i am keen to make sure i do have multiples if i have 3 or whatever and yes i will have to deal with any loss and concequence if i didnt know i had to do that i wouldnt even begin to consider thinking like this...and i am a firm beliver that if it in your kismet to be successful on clomid then you will if not you will not...there is nothing wrong in using worldly resources in boosting chances....its not like we are choosing to make model babies and doing a gene selection???its just hormmonal pills for heaven's sake....jd...get a hold of yourself!!!!

Yas, there is no way to 'make sure' you have multiples and Clomid only increases your odds slightly. If you're under 30 with no fraternal twins from your mother or either of *your* grandmothers (DH's family has nothing to do with it) than your chances of having twins on Clomid is no more than 8-9% and you start off with a 3-5% chance to begin with.
Am I understanding that you're in the first week of a new cycle and have taken BC pills already? You should come off the BC pills completely, give your body 2-3 cycles to return to normal and then you can start Clomid when it will be effective. BC pills are also repressors so they can have the 'rebound' effect of multiple ovulation themselves with fewer side effects. You'll have received thirty 50 mg pills so since you ovulate, take one pill along with your prenatal on days 5-9 of your cycle. It would help for you to be charting so you can make sure you're BDing in the 24 hours on either side of your cycle peak day. If you don't conceive in that first cycle then in the second one move it back to 1 pill on days 4-8 of your cycle. Keep moving it back a day, 3-7, 2-6, 1-5, 1-5. By that point you would have been on Clomid for 6 cycles so you would then go off (longer than 6 months on Clomid is not recommended as it can impact your future health and if it's not working by then, it's not likely to).
Temp charting and tracking your cervical fluid is pretty vital if you're unmonitered. Read 'Taking Charge of Your Fertility' by Toni Weschler to get a deep and accurate understanding of what you're doing there. Because Clomid can decrease cervical fluid and the endometrium lining it may actually decrease your chances of conceiving/carrying to term, every woman reacts differently so you need to be as educated as possible, everything helps.
Do you have any history of liver problems or ovarian cysts? Do you chart so you know that you're ovulating? Have you had any miscarriages or live births? Lots of factors there to consider. But I get the feeling that you're wanting to start your family and have twins and are counting on Clomid to make that a reality which it will very likely not do. You must be realistically prepared that you may conceive only one child and have to deal with that. Also, with an untested primagravida you'll certainly be put into the planned C/section track of care whereas a mother who has birthed vaginally before can argue her corner for a 'trial of labour' with twins. Just another factor to consider there.
HTH!

Thanks Liza!!!
this was very very helpful....yes i know my chances can still be low but i guess i am just hoping i may be one of those lucky ones. i will be just as delighted to have a singleton...so i will deal with whatever happens...
becasue i do feel slightly scared and guilty about doing it like this i always told myself to try clomid for one cycle...(hence i got plenty of pills probably 20 to sell on if anyone is interested for £50)...i wouldnt want to take chances and take it for more than a cycle...
i will try charting myself and i thought i wont start it this month but next..making sure i get a good full cycle...
can you expalin what you meant by b/c pills being repressors???i know they prevent ovulation...but you mention recound..sorry i sound daft but can you exaplin what you meant i didnt understand it...
i probably will chart my ovulation this month despite having taken 2 b/c already as i am quite fertile and got pregnant with my son on the b/c (he is 5 years old now)..hence also why i am hoping i will have multiples...
i was thinking of taking from day 2-8....as i know i normally ovulate betwen day 11-18...is that too many???or should i stick to taking from day 5-7????
i assume i am quite healthy no history of cysts or infections etc...so i am not worried it will harm me the very first time i take it...i am generally quite a strong person hardly get any problems with my health!!!i can live in a rainforest and eat fungified foods and i manage to survive!!!!which i did when i visited a village in turkey!!!!so i think one round of clomid should not cause me too much hassle nevertheless any extreme symptoms then i will come of them immediately and seek medical advice!!!
i do want to increase my chances and so many write here they got pregnant with twins ....i hope i will post back one day with the same news...baby dust to all...

Hey there, just wanted to let you know that you're absolutely not alone in the desire to have twins/multiples. Altough, like yourself, I am scared of the possible side effects and consequences from taking unprescribed clomid and if I were to ever try it, I'd probably take it for one cycle and observe. When are you going to take your clomid? Be sure to logon and share your experience. I probably will not try until sometime next year. Good luck!!

Liza - September 8th, 2005 1:13 PM

The normal course of treatment is to take it for 5 days each cycle, doctors vary in which days they advise, 5-9 is the standard, 3-7 is popular too. However, there was a study done where they gave some of the women Clomid on days 1-5/2-6 and 23% of them fell pregnant. That's the best conception rate. However, the theory is that the sooner in the cycle you get more eggs but later in the cycle you get better eggs, it's a quality v. quantity. Because of that, sometimes age comes into play - for a woman in her late 30s/40s where egg quality is on the decline they might play it safer with days 5-9 whereas for a younger woman they might go for the early eggs with 1-5 or 2-6. A lot of women who are unmonitered choose 'in the middle' and go for 3-7 or 4-8 so they get the best of both worlds. It's VERY rare to conceive on your first cycle of Clomid so if you've bought and get through your cycle with no side effects you might as well give it 3 cycles for a fighting chance. The majority seem to conceive on cycle 3 but many women seem to strike gold in cycle 2 also.
By 'repressors' I mean just as you thought, BC pills suppress ovulation and when you go off there's a 'surge' response hormonally. It's similar to the effects of a miscarriage and in both cases, some women find they have enhanced fertility in that honeymoon period just after coming off. It's like holding a balloon underwater - when you let go it bounces way up and then settles back to float on the surface. Hormones do that jump as they're settling down.
I must interject here that I have wonky hormone levels and have conceived all 4 of my children on the mini-pill. The first time I was travelling and didn't adjust for the time zone and conceived fraternals. My mother conceived my sister 3 months after losing my brother (at 22 weeks - Rubella). So we know that 'rebound' effect well. You may find that just coming off the BC pills enhances your chances for a cycle or two anyway. So my advice would be for you to give the rest of this cycle BC-free to normalize and then do Clomid on days 3-7 or 4-8 in your next cycle and you'd probably be in with your best chance.
You can take it for 6 days, some doctors prescribe it that way, but it won't have any bearing unless there's some reason with your cycle for doing it. Honestly, you'll find yourself relieved to get to that day 5! I don't suffer from PMS or anything but I did notice a dull 'ache' in my forehead the whole 5 days and was very happy to see the back end of that!
And do read up on Overstimulation - You need to know the warning signs and symptoms. And be prepared, when you O on Clomid many women find it rather painful and find they don't enjoy that conception sex much because of it. That's down to the stronger ovulation it causes so not tons of fun but hopefully effective.
HTH!

JF - September 9th, 2005 8:28 PM

JD- You should really be careful how you judge others- you have NO idea what any of us have been through!!!! I too am taking clomid although I have always had a a regular cycle. My reason is due to the fact that I lost a baby boy at 30 weeks!!! Any future pregancies will definitley result in bed rest after 12 weeks. Now maybe you can understand why someone would try to increase their chances of twins!!! Let go of your self centered reaction!!!! BE CAREFUL- until you have walked in everyones shoes your can't judge them!!!!!

sumayo - September 10th, 2005 8:19 PM

i have been with my boyfreind for 6 years i want to a docter she give me fertomid-50 do u think it my help

Lynn - September 18th, 2005 1:48 PM

I want to have multiples too, just twins. I have done LOTS of research on having twins, and know the risks, I want to know this...I will be taking clomid on cd 3-7 followed by an HCG shot...But what day would be better to take the shot? I want to increase my chances of getting pg w/ this cycle. Any help would be great!
For JD-
I understand you said we are selfish for wanting more than 1 child but there are so many parents who are too selfish to use bcp's when they should. Having kids on purpose is DEFINITELY NOT selfish! YOu have to give up SO much....Which I am willing to do. I guess we are equal in we both want kids, and we both will do what we have to do to have them....we just have one different goal...I would like twins, you wouldn't. You say be happy w/ what we have, but do you really know any of our histories, # 1 and #2, if you were happy w/ what you had, you would not have sought fertility treatments. You can't tell us to do something and then not do it yourself....That is hypocritical. Also, calling us stupid, that's just your ignorance.
For the rest of us!
TWINS BE OUR BLESSING! :-)

Angela W. - September 18th, 2005 9:03 PM

HI, I'm new to this board, but I also posted on another similar thread. I just placed my order for my Clomid and I can't wait to get it. We have been TTC for two months and I have not ovulated this month. No preg symt, and DH has been out of town for the past 3 days which of course was right in the middle of my time to O, but again it never came. I don't think I'm preg, but maybe. I am so glad that this site exists so we can share our experiences! Twin Dust to all**********

ME2 - September 22nd, 2005 8:54 AM

I am also searching for a similar case as mine. I am a fertile, 25 yr old who ovulates and has 35 day cycles. We've TTC for 3 months and start clomid this cycle. I would love to have twins! We are a Christian, Homeschooling family and want to follow the Bible! I am made to have babies and be a mommy! And that is what I plan to do! I stay at home now with my 4 yr old kindergartener daughter and almost 2 yr old son. We want a LARGE family. So what if someone prays to have more than one at a time. I assure you they also pray for the health of each baby too! We aren't ignorant. We're moms.
My doc told me the norm cd5-9 start day. I think I may take it cd4-8. Starting on cd3 makes more eggs, cd5 makes stronger ones. I already O, so I think I'll be comfy in the middle. Dr's won't just give clomid to anyone either. You've got to know people's stories before passing judgement! A second preg may not be possible, so twins may be the only hope of having more than one child--EVER! I risk this being may last baby(ies) due to endometriosis, which is why I have clomid so early on. Be faithful to it ladies! I've seen it work miracles!
1 in 200 annovulatory women who take clomid get multiples. I don't know how many more it would be for those of us who are ovulatory. Pretty good I bet!!!

TO Me - September 22nd, 2005 11:47 AM

Hi I'm Lauren & I too am christian & think the same as yourself. I am older & would love to have twins this time as I want to have 4 children & fear I may not be able to go through this again. God bless u in your trying.

mama-bean - September 22nd, 2005 4:51 PM

ME2... most of these ladies are taking Clomid unprescribed, ordered from outside of the US, and without their Doctors knowledge. "Dr's won't just give clomid to anyone either."
Good Luck to you!

Jasmine - September 23rd, 2005 3:51 AM

lauren, I'm similar to you- not homeschooling or anything, but we have a 4.5yo and a 1.5yo and would love a large family! I have purchased Clomid unprescribed though, and intend to take it without a doctor overseeing. I have enough for two cycles, whatever happens, happens. If it doesn't result in twins, I wont be trying again, we'll just create our large family the old fashioned way...
Best of luck to you!

Lauren - September 23rd, 2005 10:49 AM

Jasmine - I actually got prescribed clomid however doubled my dose last mth (the mth I conceived). I took 2-6 100mg / my great grandma had twins so we will see? I am currently 8wks along. good luck ladies
