Twins

Okay, I'm getting married in February, Which My Fiance' and I decided that we weren't going to try to have kids right away but we aren't going to prevent it either, whatever happens, happens. So Today I got a phone call from him and he was thinking about what if we have twins, so i wanted to get advise from other ladies out there who know more about having twins or have been through it. Another thing, is i want to know what my chances are with having twins, My Grandmother has twin sisters, Which then my grandmother had a set of twins her self, Which then her daughter which is my mom had twins, I'm an identical twin myself which My sister and I are the 13th set just on my mom's side of the family, my fiance' also has twins on his side. So i was wondering if i would most likely have twins since it runs in our family pretty strong. My brothers haven't had any kids yet, nor has my twin, so I would probably be the first after i get married so i just wanted to see what my chances were and to hear everyone else advise. Thank you.

wow - that is a lot of twins!! as far as your chances, identical twins don't run in families - it is pure chance. i assume that most of the twins in your family would be fraternals, which DO run (the women in some families tend to "drop" more than 1 egg when ovulating). it doesn't matter if the men are twins on your side or on your husbands, as men don't ovulate. i would make a little family tree tracking the women on your side and how many of them had twins and whether the twins were id or frat. it won't give you a % chance, but it should give you an idea of the liklihood. also just to note that fraternal twins are "safer" to carry than id twins as they are guaranteed to have their own sacs, placentas, etc. frat twins can still be high risk, but id twins are more likely to have complications. good luck to you!
btw - i had id twin girls in 2003 - they had ttts and i have 1 twin survivor and 1 is in heaven.
