Hey everyone! I just recently found out that i am about 5 weeks pregnant. I have always wanted twins and it is somethin that runs on my moms side of the family. My great-grandmother had twins, it skipped my grandmother, my aunt had twins, it skipped my mom, and im the next in line. There is also a history of twins in my husband family, but not as "common" as it is in mine. Just kinda wonderin what my chances are. This is my first pregnancy, so there are so many things going through my head right now, along with that. If any of you know, pleaes fill me in:) Thanks so much!!

Well not as encouraging as I think you were hoping for, but my good friend in High school her mom was a twin, and then her grandma was a twin, so she assumed she would have twins, but she has had 3 babies so far and no twins. But I do herer that the older you get, and the more babies you have the greater your chances.

i take clomid and twins run in my family and my doc tld me that with clomid and all that i only have a 10% chance of conceiving twins. so i would say that you would have a 5-10% chance having twins depending on if you used any type of fertility drug or not. not very good odds but it could happen. good luck

were you pregnant through Assisted Reproductive Technology (IVF) or are you over 35. Doctors say that these are some of the potential for twin pregnancy. However, at 6 weeks an ultrasound can tell you for sure. Good Luck.

What types of twins did your great-grandmother and aunt have? Identical twins are not at all hereditary. It is a random occurance that doctors still do not fully understand the causes of. Fraternal twins can be genetic in that a woman who regularly drops two eggs at ovulation can pass that trait on to her daughters and to their daughters. skipping generations is a myth. So if you have inherited the gene that causes you to drop multiple eggs at ovulation, you could produce twins. And it is not at all hereditary from the father's side, as men cannot pass down the gene that makes a woman drop two eggs (obviously). Also, what these other posts have said about age and fertility treatments can also up your chances.

Men can pass down the gene that causes a woman to drop more eggs. It can be passed from father to daughter, but your husband cannot make you drop more eggs. My father's mother had twins, as did my great grandmother on my father's side. Nobody on my mother's side has ever had twins. I got the double dropping skill from my father's side.
