Can An Ultrasound Miss Twins????

I remember getting my u/s and the DR would just have to move the wand a little bit and the whole angle was so different, I was amazed that he knew what he was looking at because I sure was confused. At 13-14 weeks, it would be very hard to miss a twin, especially with a vaginal u/s. I'm not saying it isn't possible but not likely. As for mirror imaging, that actually can and does happen during an u/s. It all depends on the shape of the uterus, angles and stuff. |

it is very unusual for twins to be missed at 14 weeks. The pp is correct that the angle can provide what may look like an entirely different baby. If two babies don't show up on the screen at the same time chances are good that it is just one. |

For me, it was very obvious during an u/s at 7wks, that it was twins. If it's that visible at 7wks, I'm sure that it couldn't be missed at 14. But then again, anything is possible. Keep us posted. |

It was very obvious for us at 8 weeks as well. I do know a woman that didn't find out until 30 weeks though, so I guess it is possible. You'll get another u/s around 20 weeks so you can ask then to make sure. |

An u/s isn't just a "window in the womb." What you're seeing is a cross-section of the uterus. Changing the wand even a little will show you a drastically different picture. If the doctor (who is trained to read u/s imaging) didn't see a second fetus, then there probably isn't one. |

Yes there are buttons that create a mirror image of the fetus. At that age you would see them both at the same time. |
