I'm curious- when taking 200mg of Clomid, do you take it twice a day or all at once? I wa given scrip by RE back when I had insurance and my last IVF failed. I never get my period naturally, only BC pills bring it on. I just finished and have enough Clomid for 200mg a day. I last tried 150mg a day but didn't ovulate. I think my ovaries were just so used to the strong injectible Follistim that they see Clomid as nothing at all. I want to try the 200mg, but wonder if I should split the dose and take 100mg twice a day. Anyone know what to do in this situation?

CAN ANYONE PLEASE ANSWER MY QUERY PLEASE PLEASE?????

YAS, to answer your question.. - September 7th, 2005 10:07 PM

I took 50mgs of clomid and got pregnant with my daughter, I have PCOS and was also on Metformin 1500mgs. CLOMID only comes in 50mg and more rarely 25mg. When taking more than 100mgs you should take 2 50mg pills and so on. I bought my clomid without a prescription this time but I had went to the doctor and got all the tests ran to make sure I had no cysts before I ordered it. The doctor also wrote some prescriptions for clomid for me but at my pharmacy 5 pills would cost about 30 bucks. I got 30 50mg pills online at www.medsmex.com for $42 dollars and the shipping only took 8 days. Hope this helps.

To the person who answered the last post- you said to take 2- 50mg pills and so on. Forgive my ignorance, but does that mean if you're on 200mg, to take 100mg (2- 50mg tabs) twice a day? I took the 200 all at once yesterday and am still wondering if I messed up. I have no side effects but then, after taking Follistim, Clomid is like a baby aspirin. Just curious- is twice a day better than once a day when dealing with large doses of Clomid? I'd really appreciate advice if anyone has it! Thanks!

JLW - September 8th, 2005 2:01 PM

You can take them all at once if you want to, it's totally up to you. Actually taking them all at once would probably be better so that you can have them all out of the way. I was really trying to stress that normally clomid is only sold in 50mg tablets and if you are taking a dose like 100mg you would just take 2 50mg pills.

Hi everyone, I took Clomid last yer (50mg) from days 5-9 and conceived twins unfortunatley lost them at 7 weeks due to a chromosonal factor. Shortly after conceived my Son (now 1) not on Clomid. Now going for #2 (or maybe #2&#3) and taking clomid again (50mg for days 5-9) I have had my LH surge today so I am crossing my fingers for another little miracle/s.
I have heard that more is not nessisarily the better by taking clomid if you are already ovulating. More chances of getting side effects like hostile mucus and hyperstimulisation of the ovaries. I am just sticking to the lowest dose. Mine was perscribed by my doctor to give me a little boost and ensure I ovulate regularly.

Is taking this medication without a doctors precription ok. My husband and I have a 14 year old and would love more than anything to have another child. Is it worth the try?

mama-bean - September 19th, 2005 11:06 PM

Tina.. please research thoroughally. Clomid is linked to cancer, polyps, cysts, and decreased long term fertility, especially when taken by a normally fertile woman. It was designed for women who do not ovulate regularly on their own, or who produce poor quality eggs. The chemicle contained within is designed for THEM. If your doc thinks it is safe, he'll prescribe it to you. He will monitor you. He will make the process as safe as possible. If you feel you really need this medicine, then talk to your doctor.

Can anyone tell me if purchasing clomid from the internet without a prescription is illegal in the U.S. Becoming pregnant is important, but not that important that I commit a crime. Can someone please respond!

yas2000 - September 22nd, 2005 4:24 AM

mama-bean...YOUR ON A REAL MISSION TO SCARE PEOPLE ARENT YA...TO ALL THOSE WANTING TO TAKE CLOMID WITHOUT PRESCRIPTION....
DO YOUR RESEARCH THOROUGHLY....FIND OTHERS LIKE YOU WHO HAVE DONE IT...IF YOUR DOCTOR IS SUPPORTIVE SEE IF HE CAN PRESCRIBE IT FOR YOU ANYWAY...AND TO BE QUITE HONEST ONCE YOU AL HAVE DONE YOUR RESEARCH AND SPOKEN TO OTHERS IN YOUR SHOES AND DECIDED TO GO AHEAD...SUPPOSE YOU GOT PREG ON CLOMID...YOU WILL STILL GET THE CARE THAT ANY OTHER PREGNANT MOTHER GETS...MY ADVICE START ON A LOW DOSAGE AND SEE HOW IT AFFECTS YOU...ANY SIGN OF DIZZY SPELLS, OR OTHER SEVERE SYMPTOMS (WHICH SHOULD SHOW UP AFTER YOUR FIRST 2-3 PILLS...STOP IMMEDIATELY AND BOOK YOURSELF IN FOR A CHECK UP...THE CRUCIAL THING...DO YOUR RESEARCH..THOROUGHLY!!!!!

Sue.RN - September 25th, 2005 7:53 AM

I CANNOT believe some of the postings, I am an RN and I have PCOS and am on metformin, My Endocrinologist recommended that I try Clomid if I don't get pregnant in 1 year. He also recommended that I try for multiples b/c I will have to remove my ovaries as soon as I give birth, so I have 1 "shot" for having a family. So I am also excited about the possibility of twins, but I would NEVER take any prescription medicine without medical advise. Clomid is a drug with real side effects and is used to treat women with real problems conceiving, not for women to pick and chose how many babies she wants to have. It makes me sick to think that women that can conceive naturally purchase this drug without a prescription just so they can have twins or triplets. Unless you have an MD after your name, leave the prescribing and diagnosing to your doctors, if not for your own health but for the health of your unborn babies. Multiple births increase a mother's risk for many pre and post pregnancy complications, not to mention uterine rupture and extensive lacerations, but multiple births also increase the chance that your baby will be born prematurely. To all women considering purchasing Clomid illegally, DONT, consult your physician first
