Progesterone? Why?

I don't typically release eggs. My doctor placed me on Clomid 50 mg day 5-7 and we did an u/s on day 14. I had 5 follicles near maturity and he gave me a hCG shot the following day. The day after the shot, I came back for an IUI. I definitley felt signs of ovulation and pregnancy. I went for a blood test 14 days after my hCG shot and it came back low. They said they felt it was not the shot, but rather a pregnancy "trying". They placed me on prometrium (progesterone) 100 mg twice daily and told me to return monday (*3days later) to be retested. Can someone tell me what they are doing all this for? Have a I started a miscarriage? Is it too late? Do I have a chance? I started a slight brown spotting the following day on the progesterone, but it was very small, and has subsided. Is that the embroyo possibly embedding deeper? I'm so confused. Please any advice, knowledge?

When I found out i was pregnant, i also had brown discharge, and it should be normal , it is called implantation bleeding (sp?). But since it wouldnt stop, i was put on progesterone, which is a hormone that we usually have but they give us more to help the baby attach more. So if you are pregnant, you should take it to help avoid a miscarriage. Hope all goes well!

They told me that progesterone doesn't stop a person from miscarrying, but as you said, they told me that it does help the baby attach more. I took my hCG test and it was still low, and they said it needs to be much higher when I return on Thursday. Is there any signs that your hcg levels have increased?
