I believe the ideal weight gain for the first trimester is 3-5pounds. Then a pound a week during the second trimester. I am 17 weeks pregnant and at my last appointment (which was at 14 weeks) I had gained 2 pounds. I am very sure I have gained more than that in these last 3 weeks. Or it feels that way anyway.

3-5 pounds during the first trimester
Approximately 1-2 pounds per week in the second trimester
Approximately 1-2 pounds per week in the third trimester

my doctor told me a few pounds, preferably none in the first trimester and 1 lb/week the remaining for a total of 25-35lbs...obviously some weeks you are going to gain more than 1 lbs and it all really depends on what your pre-pregnancy weight was..if you were underweight, they want you to gain more, if you were overweight, they want you to gain less. I gained almost 70lbs w/ my first pregnancy and my doctor didn't even bat an eye at it because I only weighed 106 before I got pregnant....so it really depends on each individual situation.

I'm 21 weeks preggers and I've gained about 9 pounds.. healthy weight gain depends on your body type. Consult with your OB.

I think gaining too much weight no matter waht your pre pregnancy weight is isn't healthy. I mean im overweight to begin with and ive gained only 13 pounds so far being 30 weeks. My dr is happy with that totally. But I know people that were smaller to begin with and gained 50 or 60pounds and no matter what there weight was weren't happy with it. I think sometimes when you retain alot of water adn stuff you cannot help what you gain. It happens all the time. Just don't gorge yourself in eating if your not hungry and try to eat healthy. I don't want to gain alot of weight for the simple fact its hard to loose afterwards, no matter if your bigger or not its still weight you will have to loose on your own.

everyone is different when it comes to gaining/loosing the weight. LIke I said I gained almost 70lbs and it wasn't a big deal.. It didn't even look like I gained that much, and afterwards, I lost it all within the fist 2 months. By my 6 week check up, I was only 10lbs more than my pre-pregnancy weight....if you are underweight, doctors expect you to gain more weight.
