4am Feedings

Hi, My daughter is now 4 weeks old. She wakes (pretty much like clockwork) around 4am to eat. However, she throws up that feeding most of the time...I dont know whether she is truly hungry, should I give her more after throwing up (which does not make sense) or is she over feeding. She is br___tfed at this feeding. Any advice?

She may need a feed at that time, but if you try just settling her back down to sleep without a feed, you will soon know if she is hungry or not as she may sleep through, or wake within a short period of time for a feed. Sorry for the confusing advice - it's all trial and error isn't it!

At 4 weeks they need to eat at least every 4 hours so I wouldn't let her skip it. But maybe feed her less? Or you can feed her a bit, burp her, then feed more. My son with throw up if he eats too fast and doesn't burp.

I know you say she's b___stfed, but what position do you use to nurse her? Could you perhaps try the football hold, and hold her so that she is slightly inclined while nursing? The upright position should help her to pa__s any gas bubbles out.

Do you put her down too soon after the feed?

I dont think I put her down to soon after feeding. I burp her (which she rarely does), change her and rock her... she probably doesnt go down until 20/30 mins after feeding. she normally spits it up right after eating

When my baby was that age, she used to bring up full feeds usually when she had taken to much. You might have to try and cut that 4am feeding down so she doesn't take so much maybe?

G- My daughter is a week old and its the same thing. She wakes around 4am. She eats so fast and swallows so much that she ends up spitting up alot. I dont know what to do to slow her down...
