Hi there, I'm going to a wedding on Saturday & would like to have a few drinks (maybe 3 or 4) since I haven't had a drink on over a year. I'm nursing my 3 month old dd & just wondering when it would be safe to nurse again after I had the drinks. I pump milk & have enough milk for at least 24 hours ... if I have 4 drinks in the evening & I pump & dump through the night & drink lots of water would it be safe to nurse her by morning? Or should I wait 24 hours ... just not to sure. Thanks!

i just went to my b___stfeeding cla__s and the lady said you can have 2 beers a day, i believe? but you need to drink them right after a feeding, but if you have some milk stored up in bottles, might as well pump and store until the wedding and use that so you can give your body a day to get rid of the alcohol. but definitely ask your doc if you aren't sure.

It really depends on how affected you become from the alcohol & how quickly you drink the 3-4 drinks. My doctor told me that it takes about 4hrs for the alcohol to be burned up from 1 standard drink, so if you have a drink right after a feed it should be out of your system by the next feed. It is not always necessary to pump and dump because the milk will only ever have the same amount of alcohol as your blood, so you may only need to pump for your comfort. As your body gets rid of the alcohol it also absorbs it from your milk so if you can feel the affects of the alcohol it will still be in your milk. I would say allow about 4hrs per drink, so if you only have 3-4 drinks in the evening you should be right by the late morning to feed bubs again. Hope this helps
