I have just dropped my babys last feeding and I am in the process of drying up my milk, I get really engorged and start feeling lumps (milk ducts i assume) will this go away after a few days...or can it turn into an infection? How long does this go on?

I was engorged for only a few days and then maybe 4-5 more to be completely dried up...

hey jennifer, we are both going through the same thing. I am on day 4 of the drying up process and like you i'm full of lumps and bumps and wow does it hurt!!. I'm only expressing enough to relieve the engorgment.. Advil seems to help with the pain and hot baths. just make sure if a fever developes to go to emerg. Maybe some gentle ma__sage to soften the lumps would help. Here's to eating garlic again...goodluck!!

KH and desiree...Thank you so much for your input on this. I am now on day 4...and almost completely dried up now...thank goodness!! The first few days were really painful, but now it is much better! The trick for me was an ace bandage wrapped around me and ice packs! Thanks again!

HI- I am also on day 4 of drying up and man did I forget the pain that goes with it!! My neighbor is a doctor and she said to wrap the ace bandage around pretty tight, and it feels much better!! I am going to try the motrin and ice too. I was really feeling guilty stopping the b___stfeeding but my daughter was under the 5% for her weight. I was a milk machine with my boys so I dont really know what the problem was. I took her to the Dr. today and she is in the 25% for weight so I know that I made the right choice in quitting. So now I can have a couple of Mikes light hard cranberry lemonade!! Yummy!!
