Exclusively Bfing Not Gaining Enough Weight

My dd is 4 months old and I exclusively br___tfeed her. She was 8 1/2 pounds at birth, and is now just about 14. I worry that she's not gaining enough... I have a number of friends who had babies within a month of me, and dd was the biggest at birth, but she's now the smallest. All the others but one are formula fed though. Anyway... I just worry that she's not gaining enough. I read they should double their weight by 4 - 5 months, but she's 3 pounds off! Is this ok??? This is my first child, and I really don't want to have to start giving her formula...

Do you know if you or your husband were slow gainers as infants? I had the same situation with my dd. She was barely 17 lbs at 1 year, and she was 7.5 lbs at birth. I was a very slow gainer so the dr said that she may just be following my trend. She was also exclusively bf too. Usually they look to see if the baby is following the growth curve pattern, even if they are not following the average weight line. They ended up testing the calorie content of my milk (it was fine) and doing a metabolism blood panel on dd at 8mos and it turned out normal. I wouldn't worry about it unless the dr says there is an issue.
