Hiccups After Nursing HELP

Hello, my son is only 5 days old, and nursing is finally getting to be less of a challenge for us thanks to the nipple shield I have been using due to flat nipples. The only problem is he gets the hiccups almost everytime after nursing. Is there anything I can do to prevent this from happening, or something I can do to help him get rid of them once they start? I feel really bad because he gets them so often.

when he is 2 weeks old and older you can try giving him 'little tummys' gripe water after nursing. That usually cures my lo and is suggested for hiccup discomfort among other things..

I have the same issue with my 12 day old. I am also using shields to help with flat nipples. My ds gets hiccups and gas everytime he feeds. I think parrty because of the air from the shield, but my ped. said he is still just adjusting to digesting milk. I have been using the gripe water and it works wonders - cures his hiccups in minutes. Hope this helps!

hehe, my dd ALWAYS had hiccups!!! I think it bothered me more than it bothered her...eventually they won't get it everytime...no biggie unless it's bugging him.

Hiccups are totally natural b/c infant digestive systems are so immature. There is nothing that u need to do and they do not hurt the babies. My ds is 15 wks and still gets hiccups every now and then. He used to get them at least twice a day until he was 5-6wks old:)

I always try to get my lo to feed a little bit more, because the drinking usually helps to get rid of them after a few seconds.
