How Often How Long Should DS Be Feeding Worried

I have a brand new 4 day old son, who is absolutely gorgeous. I know that it's way to early to be settled into any kind of patten yet, but I'm worried that he isn't feeding enough. I have spoken to my midwife, and all they will say is that every baby is different. I know this is the case as well, but as a guide... My little boy fed about every 4-5 hours for 25 minutes yesterday, but today, he had about 20 minutes at 2 am this morning, a further 20 at about 9am, and it's now midday and he hasn't had anything more. I've tried waking him, but he just falls back asleep again, or if he stays awake, isn't interested in feeding - just wants to suck my finger! Could anyone give me some reassurance that their baby fed as little as this in their first week and didn't lose too much wieght? Thanks.

My dd did something similar for the first few weeks. One time she slept 6 hours without eating, woke up and ate, then slept for another 4 hours! I was told to try to keep her awake for her feedings to make them longer - even using a cool cloth on her bare skin to wake her up to eat. After a week or so, she seemed to really catch on and she's now a 16lb girl at 14 weeks :) Just keep an eye on his weight and make sure he's got lots of good diapers - good luck! and Congratulations :)
