I think my daughter is constipated, she usually makes 8 - 10 bowel movements a day but yeterday it was only 4, today she seems to be struggling today. She is 3 1/2 weeks old and Iam br___tfeeding and I also give her about 6 ounces of formula per day ( as per Doctor ). What can I do to help her poop?

She is most likely not constipated. Was her last stool hard? If no then she is not constopated. If you push on her stomach is it soft? Again if its not hard then she is not constipated. Breastfed babies can go days with out pooping but since you give her formula she should go more often but I would not be concerned quite yet. Give her a day and see how it goes. If you are really concerned then call your doctor to be sure. Good luck and let us know!

Hi Tamara, Breastfed babies can go up to 7 days without pooping and it's considered ok. Breast milk is such a perfect food that it leaves little waste. My baby doesn't go every day, right now it's been 3 days. She is uncomfortable but when she finally goes it's the mother lode but it's always soft so she's not considered constipated.

It would be really, really odd for a mostly b___stfed baby to be constipated. A baby's bowel movement patterns will change several times during the first few months, so that could be all you are seeing. Meanwhile, be grateful you aren't changing that many poopy diapers :)

Chris- how old is your dd? Is she on solids yet? My ds has gone down to "going" every 2-3 days since we introduced solids and on day 2 and 3 hes such a grump real fussy and plain uncomfotable.
