It will hurt for the first several days, possibly weeks. One thing you can do is use a nipple shield over your nipple - I had to use one with my daughter for 6 weeks, to let blood blisters from a bad latch heal. But, they will desensitize over time. You just have to grin and bear it at first, and remember that it is the right choice for your baby, that you are doing what we as women were designed to do - we are mammals, we were designed to feed our young with our mammary glands. Nature/god/whatever you believe didn't mess up - you CAN do this, this is WHY you have b___sts.

Those nipple shields are AWESOME. They are worth every single penny we spent on them. They TOTALLY helped my nipples heal = we had a few bad latches at the start. They catch the extra b___st milk...then you can bathe your nipples in the milk - let them dry and then put the plastic shield back on. It took my one super sore nipple 3 full weeks to recover from the blister thing we had on the tip. PLUS invest in a lactation nurse - we had her come for one hour and she totally helped me trouble shoot my right b___st issue! The cups we bought were.....lemme check....ameda. I found that that lanisoh stuff made things worse...b___st milk seems to have the best healing properties - but then again I am not a doctor. OH - I am one of those "don't touch my nipples either" kind of gals. You can can do it!
