REALLY Sore After Pumping

I have been br___tfeeding and pumping for almost 4 weeks now, and have a hospital pump rental (Medela Symphony 2.0). I haven't had any problems with the electric pump but the kit also includes a manual pump, and I decided to try it just to see how well it worked, and thought that maybe I could also use it when I'm away from a power source. I pumped for about 10 minutes on one side and only 2 or 3 on the other side, because my baby had just nursed from that side. I got almost as much milk in 10 min as I usually do with the hospital pump, which I thought was great-although using the manual pump was slightly awkward-but I would not say painful. The next time I nursed (about 2 hours later), I got extremely sore on the side I'd previously pumped for 10 minutes on. It's not the nipple that's sore, but the upper part of the br___t tissue. Over the last hour, I've continued to get even more sore and am wondering if using the pump could have caused this. I'm using ice packs and then planning to take a warm shower. Is there anything else I can do to relieve this pain?

Does your sore b___st feel hard? You may have gotten a clogged duct - it happened to me a few times after using a pump. Warm compresses, hot showers, ma__sage can help. It should clear up - feel your baby often on that side. Also, try different feeding positions -including leaning over on all fours to feed. It looks silly, so don't let anyone see, but it totally cleared up my clogged duct each time. :)

OK, now I have a slight fever and some chills, so I think I have mast_tis. I just took some ibuprofen and will call the doctor in the morning.
