Why Does Milk Supply Just Stop

I pumped exclusively with my DD for the first 5 1/2 months. Then, something happened. I went from being able to provide 35-40 oz a day to barely 6 oz. Even though I would still pump the same frequency as before, my supply diminished and would not return. I finally stopped and unlike some who said it would be hard, I didn't even notice it. It was like I had never even pumped at all. I'm wondering what it could have been? Hormones? I wanted to continue, but my body somehow just stopped and I couldn't .

I don't know, but I'd sure like to read some responses to this one. Did you try drinking Mother's Milk tea or taking fenugreek pills? I do that when I feel like my supply is decreasing and it seems to help.

I didn't take any kind of supplements at all. I do know that towards the end, I got my period back and that seemed to be the start of things going downhill. I always had a few days during each month that my supply would go lower and I wondered if hormones were to blame. Then I finally got my period again and that's when everything seemed to stop. I read on Kelleymom that supply can stop abruptly. I figured it was hormones? I still don't know.

I'm curious, too. My best friend successfully b___stfed her oldest for 3 or 4 months... he was gaining, all was well... then suddenly she felt like she wasn't producing enough, because he always seemed hungry. She had him in for some weight checks and he was losing weight. She tried for another week or so, but he kept losing and she weaned him to formula. It was so strange!
